In Episode #70 of the Dallas Metro Podcast, Pastor Clay welcomes Isai Esparza, a lifelong member of the Dallas Metro community whose journey exemplifies faith and service. Growing up in a large, faith-filled family, Isai was shaped by the examples of his mother and grandparents, who instilled in him the value of serving at Metro. From his earliest memories of sitting on the tarps and knocking on doors as a child, Isai felt a deep connection to the ministry, finding a sense of purpose and belonging that carried him through his formative years. Isai’s involvement with Dallas Metro deepened as he transitioned from a Metro Kid to a camper, junior worker, and now a dorm leader at Metro Camp. His experiences at camp, particularly during challenging times like his parents’ divorce in high school, provided a sanctuary where he could grow in faith and find peace. A pivotal moment came when he gave $1.50 to the building fund as a child, a small but profound act of childlike faith that reflected his heart for Metro’s mission. Isai’s competitive spirit and leadership shone through at camp, where he focused on encouraging kids who felt left out, drawing from his own experiences to connect with them. Professionally, Isai worked as an electrician for two years, discovering a passion for hands-on work before answering a higher calling to serve in ministry. Now, he dedicates his time to Dallas Metro’s youth and kids programs, including Tuesday night discipleship sessions. Inspired by 1 Corinthians 7:17, Isai encourages listeners to embrace their God-given assignment, just as he has. Join us to hear Isai’s inspiring story and learn how you can support Dallas Metro’s debt-free building fund to make disciples and impact the next generation. In this episode Pastor Clay sits down with special guest Michael Cathcart, an accomplished architect whose life story weaves together faith, family, and a passion for design. Originally from Wichita, Kansas, Michael moved there after college in 1992 and raised his family alongside his wife, Stacy Cathcart, who now serves as the Director of Women’s Ministries for North Texas Assemblies of God. The couple nurtured three children—now 33, 30, and 23—and Michael beams with pride over his three grandkids. His journey took a bold turn in 2020 when, amid the uncertainties of COVID, he and Stacy followed God’s call to relocate to Dallas, leaving behind decades in Wichita for a new chapter. Michael’s architectural expertise shines in this episode as he discusses his role in designing Dallas Metro’s transformative new building project. With a career shaped by a belief that constraints fuel quality design, he’s crafted a debt-free, phased plan that includes a ministry center, a maintenance facility, and a prayer chapel with a covered play area—spaces tailored to serve Dallas’s needy children and empower the next generation of ministry. His connection with Pastor Clay began two years ago when Clay sought not just an architect, but a friend, sparking a collaboration that’s been a blessing to Dallas Metro. Michael’s occasional fishing trips might soon include Pastor Clay, thanks to a mutual friend with a boat, blending his professional gifts with a down-to-earth charm. Beyond blueprints, Michael’s life reflects a deep commitment to faith and community. From raising his kids in Wichita to embracing grandparenthood’s joys—like watching Jack and Maggie run free while Griffin gears up to crawl—he’s found the “golden years” every bit as fulfilling as promised. In Dallas, he’s not just designing a building but helping address stark realities, like the city’s ranking as third in the U.S. for poor children, with facilities that will store and serve food to those in need. Pastor Clay and Bob dive into the remarkable story of planting City Chapel in 2001, starting with a handful of former youth group members in South Arlington. What began as a modest gathering in a coffee shop that grew into a full-fledged church, moving from rented spaces to a small building gifted by a local family, and eventually expanding with buses and outreach programs like Sidewalk Sunday School. They reflect on the ups and downs of church planting, including the challenges of COVID, and how Bob’s commitment to prayer and soul-winning— inspired by Pastor Tommy Barnett—has fueled their mission. The discussion also explores how Arlington’s rapid diversification has shaped the church’s approach, pushing Bob to adapt by focusing on caring for people and building a staff that mirrors the community’s changing demographics. Bob shares his latest initiative, "People Are the Mission," a nonprofit born out of a desire to bridge City Chapel with Arlington through practical outreach like Feed the City, ministries for single moms, first responders, and teachers. Looking ahead, Bob dreams of helping smaller churches (75-150 people) build similar bridges to their communities, preventing closures and fostering growth. Meanwhile, Pastor Clay opens up about Dallas Metro’s vision to construct a debt-free ministry center, warehouse, and 24/7 prayer chapel to meet urgent needs—like food insecurity among Dallas’ children—and create a space for spiritual renewal. Bob encourages listeners to "enlarge their circle of love" by partnering with ministries like Dallas Metro, emphasizing the generational impact of saying yes to God’s call. Mike's journey in ministry began alongside his wife Karen, whom he met at Southwestern University. Together, they’ve served in various pastoral roles, from their first lead pastor position in Burleson, Texas, to planting a church in Oceanside, California, and later pastoring a thriving congregation in Visalia, California. Now back in Texas, where he grew up, Mike has shifted his focus to a new passion—helping people navigate finances generously and wisely, inspired by a desire to protect the vulnerable and fund kingdom work. In this heartfelt conversation, Mike reflects on the lessons learned through decades of ministry, including the surprising challenges of leading a church where dozens were saved weekly. He shares how those experiences shaped his book, The God Nudge, which explores how God uses everyday people to answer prayers through small, divine prompts. Pastor Clay and Mike dive into the power of effective prayer—not asking God to do our will, but aligning with what He wants to accomplish on earth. Their discussion reveals a shared belief that life’s greatest impact comes from being available to God, no matter the season. Join us for an inspiring conversation with Pastor Clay and his special guest Mildred DeJesus. Mildred is a dedicated pastor’s wife and ministry leader whose journey is as remarkable as her faith. Born on the island of Puerto Rico, Mildred’s early life took her from the vibrant Caribbean to Massachusetts, where she completed high school after moving there in eighth grade. Her path eventually led her to meet her husband, a native of upstate New York who spent most of his formative years in San Antonio, Texas. Together, they’ve built a life rooted in love and service, celebrating 29 years of marriage on March 16th and raising three adult children—all of whom now join them in ministry. With a two-year-old granddaughter named Arya and another grandbaby on the way, Mildred’s family is a testament to the generational blessings she passionately believes in. Mildred’s ministry story is one of resilience and divine timing. Alongside her husband, she pastored in Oak Cliff, near Christ for the Nations, before a season of loss prompted a move to San Antonio to be near his family. After a decade there, including time as youth pastors under Pastor John Hagee at Cornerstone Church, they felt God’s call to return to Dallas for “unfinished Kingdom business.” Approaching 50, Mildred and her husband took a leap of faith, planting Victory Church in Lancaster at a Cinemark theater—a challenging setup that involved six months of setting up and tearing down. Their prayers for a permanent home were answered when they merged with Hill Church in DeSoto, forming Victory Hill Church in July two years ago. This union blended two congregations into one vibrant family, reflecting Mildred’s deep commitment to unity and community. From her diverse roots—spanning a Jehovah’s Witness, Catholic, and agnostic background before a radical salvation at 19—to her current role, Mildred brings a unique perspective to ministry. Her experiences have shaped her into a compassionate leader who values relationships, as seen in her approach to speaking engagements like a recent women’s event at Dallas Metro Church. There, she not only shared a powerful message on Esther but witnessed the Holy Spirit move, breaking generational curses and igniting spiritual breakthroughs among the attendees. Fluent in Spanish, her first language, Mildred’s ability to connect across cultures shines through, making her a bridge-builder in every sense. Her story is one of staying the course, trusting God through life’s seasons, and inspiring others to do the same. In this episode, Mildred opens up about the challenges and joys of pastoring in today’s world, offering encouragement to fellow ministry leaders and sharing practical wisdom on fasting and prayer—practices that have sustained her own journey. Whether you’re drawn to her multicultural background, her family’s legacy of faith, or her insights on building strong communities, this conversation is sure to uplift and motivate. In this episode, Pastor Clay sits down with Tito (Juan) Armendariz grew up in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by a strong, faith-driven family. His grandparents played a significant role in shaping his beliefs, modeling a deep relationship with God. Though his school friends call him Juan, the nickname “Tito” stuck after a young cousin mispronounced “Juanito.” Now in eighth grade, Tito has been involved with Dallas Metro since childhood, first attending their sidewalk programs and later participating in summer and youth camps, where he strengthened his faith and built lasting connections. For much of his childhood, Tito struggled to understand the challenges happening within his family. When his parents separated, he initially blamed himself, withdrawing from others and battling feelings of depression. However, over time, he realized that even in difficult moments, God had a plan for his life. Through Dallas Metro, he found a supportive community that encouraged him to grow. Youth camps pushed him beyond his comfort zone, helping him open up and develop meaningful relationships—with others and with God. Today, Tito looks back on his journey with gratitude. He no longer sees his struggles as burdens but as testimonies of faith and resilience. His family is in a better place, and he recently experienced something he never thought possible—a cruise with his loved ones, a symbol of how much life has changed. While challenges remain, he has learned that God is always present, even in the lowest moments. Tito hopes that others going through similar struggles will know they are not alone. Join Pastor Clay as he interviews Kevin “KB” Belcher. Kevin grew up in the projects, surrounded by crime, violence, and poverty. With few positive role models, he idolized the drug dealers and gang leaders who seemed to have power and success. That path led him into trouble, and before he knew it, he was facing a 99-year prison sentence. But God had other plans. Instead of a life behind bars, Kevin was given the chance to enter Teen Challenge, a Christian rehabilitation program. At first, he resisted, but over time, God transformed his heart, leading him away from the life he once knew and toward a calling to help others escape the same cycle of destruction. After completing Teen Challenge, Kevin committed himself to ministry, spending 13 years working with the organization. He had a gift for connecting with the most difficult cases—young men who resisted change, just as he once had. He knew their struggles firsthand, and through patience, love, and the power of God, he helped break down their walls. His work extended beyond Teen Challenge when he partnered with Clay at Dallas Metro, an inner-city ministry dedicated to reaching children and their families in some of the most dangerous neighborhoods. Together, they brought hope to places where hope seemed lost, knocking on doors, ministering to kids, and watching as entire families were transformed by the Gospel. Today, Kevin continues to serve, now working in civil service while still being deeply involved in ministry. He recently married, a testimony to how God reveals blessings in His perfect timing. His story is one of redemption—not just his own, but of countless others whose lives he has touched. Whether through Teen Challenge, Dallas Metro, or personal discipleship, Kevin’s mission remains the same: to show people that no matter how broken their past, God has a future for them. As Dallas Metro prepares to build a new community center for at-risk youth, Kevin stands as living proof that such ministries change lives. Born into a difficult family situation, Bianca was largely raised by her older sister and found a second family within the church community at Bethel Assembly. The love and support she received there shaped her future and gave her the foundation to pursue her dreams. Bianca originally planned to become a teacher, but while working as an aide in a nursing home, a mentor recognized her compassion and encouraged her to consider a career in nursing. Although she initially doubted her abilities, she went on to earn a degree in Early Childhood Education before ultimately finding her calling in healthcare. Today, she not only serves as a nurse educator but also works alongside her husband, Dr. Bill Cox, at his internal medicine practice, helping patients navigate their health journeys with knowledge and confidence. Throughout her life, Bianca has witnessed firsthand the challenges within the medical field, particularly the spread of misinformation that leaves patients feeling lost and fearful. She believes that finding a compassionate and trustworthy doctor is crucial to receiving quality care. Her husband, Bill, has been a role model in this regard, having been called to medicine at the age of five through a dream. For him, medicine is not just a profession but a purpose, and Bianca admires his unwavering dedication to his patients. Beyond her career, Bianca is passionate about encouraging others to overcome adversity. She shares how a teacher once told her she would never go to college, a statement she refused to accept. Instead, she held onto the belief that her future was not determined by her past. She credits her faith for guiding her path and often reflects on the promise of Jeremiah 29:11, which speaks of God’s plans for a hopeful future. Bianca is also a strong advocate for the work being done at Dallas Metro Ministries. She believes in the power of investing in people’s lives, not just through temporary assistance but by equipping them with the skills and opportunities to build a better future. She sees this mission as an extension of her own life story, a testament to the importance of community, faith, and perseverance. Her story is one of transformation, shaped by the kindness of others, the strength of her faith, and the dedication to helping people, whether in a hospital, a doctor’s office, or through the ministries of Dallas Metro.
