When a young Eva Kollisch arrives as a refugee in New York in 1940, she finds a community among socialists who share her values and idealism. She soon discovers ‘the cause’ isn’t as idyllic as it seems. Little does she know this is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to activism and her determination to create radical change in ways that include belonging, love and one's full self. In addition to Eva Kollisch’s memoirs Girl in Movement (2000) and The Ground Under My Feet (2014), LBI’s collections include an oral history interview with Eva conducted in 2014 and the papers of Eva’s mother, poet Margarete Kolllisch, which document Eva’s childhood experience on the Kindertransport. Welcome to Own Your Revival ! 🔥 Have you ever had a moment where what you thought was secure suddenly felt shaken? That happened to me one morning when I discovered something in my home that made me feel deeply unsafe—something I did not expect to find. In that instant, fear and betrayal hit me like a wave, and my reaction only escalated the tension. But instead of staying stuck in the storm of my emotions, I turned to prayer, specifically asking Saint Rita to intercede. What happened next was a powerful reminder that we are never alone in our struggles. In this episode, I’m sharing how I found peace in the midst of chaos, the lessons I learned about pausing before reacting, and how we can navigate broken agreements with both faith and practical wisdom. 🔗 Resources & Links Mentioned in the Show: A Prayer to the Holy Spirit (by Cardinal Mercier) The War Room Movie The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 🔥 NEW: Revival Community Looking for faith-filled support and guidance? Welcome to Own Your Revival ! 🔥 IIn 2025, the word "vulnerability" has been chasing me, appearing in unexpected places and conversations. Reflecting on my recent speaking engagements, I noticed that sharing my personal testimony + journey left me feeling a wee bit exposed 😅, yet the feedback often highlighted my vulnerability. This made me question: Did this have more to do with me, or was it resonating with others' stories, hearts and minds? Interestingly, we often feel more comfortable with others' vulnerability than our own. Brené Brown's insight comes to mind: "Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy, and creativity." By embracing our own vulnerability, we create a space for others to do the same, fostering deep connections and mutual healing. In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on vulnerability, authenticity and personal growth. 🔗 Resources & Links Mentioned in the Show: The One Word book Luke 10:19 Harriet Tubman Movie (2019) Daring Greatly, Brene Brown Episode 59 with Laura Buddenberg Episode 46 with Rachael Tvrdy Tyler Braden, “Call me First.” 🔥 NEW: Revival Community Looking for faith-filled support and guidance? 🚨 Spoiler Alert! This episode includes references to the original Gladiator movie featuring Russell Crowe. You might want to watch it before you listen. (It’s soooo good!) In this episode, we’re exploring the feminine genius and the powerful way women can inspire and strengthen men by honoring the good they bring to the world. I’ll share personal stories of men demonstrating true virtue, unpack timeless wisdom from St. John Paul II, and even draw inspiration from the flawed yet noble character of Maximus Decimus Meridius in Gladiator . While Maximus isn’t without his struggles and sins, his courage, leadership, and sacrificial love offer timeless examples of authentic masculinity. Together, let’s discover how grace allows us to celebrate the good while embracing imperfection—and start a ripple of encouragement that uplifts us all. 🖥️ Links/Mentions: Mulieris Dignitatem by St. John Paul II Letter to Women by St. John Paul II Gladiator Movie Video-Divina ( Bill Donaghy at the Theology of the Body Institute ) ⏰ Timestamps [00:01:09] True masculinity in modern culture. Welcome back to Own Your Revival🔥 As we enter this time of slowing down, waiting and preparing for the birth of our Lord, which is opposite of everything we see, hear and experience in a culture that practically steps over the Thanksgiving holiday to push Christmas + consumerism, can we prepare our hearts to receive Jesus on Christmas? I humbly propose we move the needle off of productivity and checking all the lists twice to a healthy balance focused on maintaining presence with Christ in prayer and those we love on the daily. As we enter the sacred season of Advent, it's a time to step back and reflect on our journey, embracing the quiet moments that allow us to listen for God's voice amidst the busyness of life. This season invites us to grieve the losses that come with change—whether it's the evolution of family traditions or the growing independence of our children—while also creating space for meaningful connections. By prioritizing stillness and prayer, we can draw closer to Jesus, nurturing our hearts and those of our loved ones as we prepare for His coming. In this way, Advent becomes not just a countdown to Christmas, but a profound opportunity for spiritual renewal and familial bonding. Join me inside this episode (complete with a crackling 🔥 in the background) for more meditations on this. 📆 Podcast will pause for Advent after this episode until January 6, 2025. If so, you are not alone. The pressure to create the perfect holiday experience can lead to feelings of inadequacy, especially when family dynamics are complicated or past traumas resurface. As we gather with loved ones, the weight of expectations can amplify feelings of loneliness, disappointment, and emotional turmoil. Mackenzie introduces trauma-sensitive tools that empower us to reclaim our peace and joy amidst the chaos. From mindfulness exercises that engage our senses to recognizing and challenging negative thought patterns, these strategies can help us create a more grounded and fulfilling holiday experience. Welcome back to Own Your Revival🔥 Join Andy as she draws a poignant parallel between the tension of last Tuesday’s historic event in the United States with the emotion of divorce court, where the stakes feel equally high as individuals await a ruling on custody.
