Here we look at some of the unusual, difficult or outright disasterous outcomes for patients caused by injectables. We speak to the injectors who managed the case and go through what happened, step by step. We'll learn about what might have been done to prevent the problem and what injectors can do in their own practice to be safer practitioners. In Chapter 4, we discuss Hayley's experience (on the other side of the needle as a patient) when she had a temple treatment with a hybrid blend of Radiesse, Belotero Revive and saline. She suffered a significant vascular occlusion and we hear about what happened, how it was managed and the lessons learned from the incident. 00:00 Introduction to Inside Aesthetics 00:46 Welcome to Chapter Four: Disasters and Solutions 01:03 Exciting News and Competitions 02:14 Introducing Today's Guest: Hayley Anderson 03:56 Hayley's Background and Journey in Aesthetics 05:11 The Vascular Occlusion 06:36 Managing the Complication: Initial Steps 08:40 In-Depth Discussion on Injection Techniques 24:58 Seeking Expert Help and Hospital Visit 29:50 Continuing Treatment and Hyperbaric Therapy 30:34 Understanding Aspirin and Viagra in Medical Treatments 30:51 Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: Benefits and Applications 31:25 Dosage and Administration of Aspirin 32:01 Viagra in Vascular Occlusions 33:09 Hyperbaric Chamber Experience 34:59 Managing Occlusions: A Case Study 37:52 The Role of Ultrasound in Treatment 41:50 Post-Treatment Recovery and Reflections 43:38 Collaborative Care and Telehealth 44:48 Lessons Learned and Future Practices 52:59 The Importance of Informed Consent 54:56 Treating Friends and Family: Ethical Considerations 57:06 Final Thoughts and Recommendations APPLY TO OUR NEW IA COMPETITION & WIN A TICKET TO ICCE IN CAIRO, EGYPT! In our new 'Industry Updates' we'll bring you up to speed about news and reactions to pressing and important issues. These episodes will be published ad hoc and as soon as we can get them out. They do not replace our regular Friday podcasts and will be titled differently to help differentiate them. Chapter 3 of our Industry Updates hosted Jason McHeyzer, National Director of AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency). With regulations very much in the Australian headlines yet again, we delve into the complexities of regulation within the cosmetic industry. We aim to clear up the confusion surrounding AHPRA's role and its efforts to ensure a safe and fair practice environment - for both our patients and the practitioners. Jason elaborates on the balance between patient safety and ethical practice. We get the regulators perspective on what sparked their clamp down on cosmetic surgery and with it, non-surgical cosmetic treatments. The discussion also covers the process of handling complaints behind the scenes, the importance of practitioner competence, and we briefly touch on future pending regulations on cosmetic injectables later this year. NEW! In our new 'Industry Updates' we share news about pressing and important issues. These episodes will be published ad hoc and they do not replace our regular Friday podcasts! Chapter 1 of our Industry Updates was impromptu recording with Dr. John Holbrook and Dr. John Delaney from Fresh Clinics. Being the biggest compliance and scripting company in Australia, we quickly arranged this talk to discuss the impact of the Queensland Health fact sheet. This has sent shockwaves across the state and the wider injecting community around Australia. The document was released by Queensland Health in December and it highlights a number of regulations including the purchasing and storage requirements for Schedule 4 medications and the necessity for having doctors physically on-site in nurse-owned clinics. Our guests share insights from their own conversation with the regulators, their webinar feedback with their nurse customers and the broader implications for Australian cosmetic clinics. Our guests conclude by emphasizing the importance of patient safety, legal compliance and the practical realities for many nurse-led clinics. 00:00 Introduction and Purpose 00:03 Regulatory Update Overview 01:36 Details of the Fact Sheet 03:48 Industry Reactions and Webinars 05:10 Legal Interpretations and Concerns 14:28 Future Steps and Industry Impact 19:32 Broader Implications for Other States 26:19 Closing Remarks and Final Thoughts JOIN OUR LISTENER WHATSAPP GROUP & SEND US YOUR COMMENTS, SUGGESTIONS OR JUST SAY HI!
