The final season is here—and Squid Game: The Official Podcast is your ultimate companion to the end of the Game. Hosts Phil Yu and Kiera Please return once more to break down every shocking twist and betrayal, and the choices that will determine who, if anyone, makes it out alive. Will Player 456 and the cast of characters we’ve grown to love finally be able to dismantle the games for good? Or will the cycle continue? Alongside creators, cultural critics, and viral internet voices, Phil and Kiera provide their own theories for how the season ends, and what Squid Game ultimately reveals about power, sacrifice, and the systems that shape us. The biggest question isn’t who wins—it’s what it means to be human. Squid Game: The Official Podcast returns Friday, June 27th.

This podcast digs into key issues that arise when building, operating, and using machines and apps that are powered by artificial intelligence. We look at industry, homes and cities. AI is increasingly being used to help optimise our lives, making software and machines faster, more precise, and generally easier to use. However, they also raise concerns when they fail, misuse our data, or are too complex for the users to understand their implications. Set up by the UKRI Trustworthy Autonomous Systems Hub this podcast brings in experts in the field from Industry & Academia to discuss Robots in Space, Driverless Cars, Autonomous Ships, Drones, Covid-19 Track & Trace and much more. If you have any questions or suggestions for future topics, please email us at contact@tas.ac.uk - You can find out more on our website at www.tas.ac.uk#LWAIP #TASHub

As the Internet expands through paradigms like the Internet of Things (IoT), massively multiplayer online (MMO) games, videotelephony and the Metaverse, Autonomous Systems (AS) are increasingly used to mediate society’s dataflows. These systems are often promoted as resource-efficient and used to mitigate the impact of the Internet’s expanding data-driven ecosystem. Because of their ubiquity and scale, the environmental impacts of hyper-scale autonomous systems are intensifying and their sustainable trustworthiness is frequently undermined. Using methods from Design, Human Computing Interaction and Science & Technology Studies research, this project collaborated with people such as technologists, policy-makers and citizen end-users. The idea was to rethink current AS infrastructures and anticipate resilient and efficient digital energy transition pathways for Resource Responsible Trustworthy Autonomous Systems design. Project website: https://imagination.lancaster.ac.uk/project/internet-zero/ Joining the podcast are: · Dr Michael Stead – Lecturer in Sustainable Design Futures – Imagination Design Research Lab – Lancaster University · Professor Paul Coulton – Chair in Speculative and Game Design – Imagination Design Research Lab – Lancaster University · Dr Neelima Sailaja – Assistant Professor – Horizon Digital Economy Research Centre – University of Nottingham · Dr Ola Michalec – Research Fellow – School of Computer Science – University of Bristol Also involved in the project: · Dr Nuri Kwon – Senior Research Associate – Imagination Design Research Lab – Lancaster University Podcast production by boardie.com Podcast Host: Sean Riley Producer: Stacha Hicks If you want to get in touch with us here at the Living with AI Podcast, you can visit the TAS Hub website at www.tas.ac.uk where you can also find out more about the Trustworthy Autonomous Systems Hub Living With AI Podcast. Forest protection is essential to mitigating climate change, and a major objective of the Forests and Climate Leaders’ Partnership established at COP27. The ASPEN project aims to develop an integrated framework for the autonomous detection, diagnosis and treatment of tree pests and diseases while trialling key components. Co-delivered by a multidisciplinary team, with UK Forestry Commission and industry partners, ASPEN wants to advance the sociotechnical feasibility of managing tree health through improving the application of machine learning to remote sensing forest data, trialling autonomous sampling for diagnosis and treatment deployment, and crystallising the governance context of these systems. Effective embedding of robotics and autonomous systems for social care will require alignment across many levels. This project seeks to move from the imaginary to the concrete by using an actual robot to help with dressing people, and imagining how this might integrate within the existing health-social care ecosystem in the UK. Employing Lego Serious Play as a tool for creative exploration, the project wants to build a physical map of this system in order to identify agents and obstacles which may influence trust in, and therefore the integration of, this robot, and experiment with potential reconfigurations. The project is also conducting a series of interviews in the lab where the dressing robot is being developed, in order to understand how engineers make technical decisions. Democratic elections should be both free and fair, but also that citizens believe that the elections are free and fair. It is also essential that the institutions in charge of managing elections are trusted in the delivery of these goals. Regulators struggle to keep up with technological developments, and many are under-resourced and time-poor. The integrity of elections is under attack, so a focus on getting these things right is more important than ever. The "Delivering Trustworthy Electoral Oversight" project investigates a natural language processing model that can classify and analyse election spending returns in near real time. Without good quality information, concerns about electoral integrity foment so this project aims to address that issue. Mobile phones store valuable information about geographical movements, communications behaviours and online browsing history. They are increasingly used as a source of evidence in criminal investigations. The Mobile Phone Extraction (MPE) process, involves making copies of a device belonging to suspects, victims or witnesses. The extracted data is examined by police and others in the criminal justice system during ongoing investigations. There is a crisis of trust and practice in MPE. This project addresses the crisis by supporting development of a trustworthy and useful platform for MPE. The project partnered with experts in software development ( Telemarq ) and digital forensics ( Hargs Solutions ). Lilian unfortunately has laryngitis, but she'll still be sharing her insights with us to help understand the legal and ethical implications of using large generative models, and how contracts and licenses can be used to promote responsible development and use of this technology. James may also jump in to offer his perspective and expertise. It's sure to be a fascinating conversation, so let's dive in." Peter Intro: "Next up on the Trustworthy Autonomous Systems Hub podcast, we'll be exploring the world of music streaming platforms and the increasingly sophisticated recommender systems that power them. Our guest today is Peter Ormosi, who is part of the team working on the project "Trustworthy Autonomous Recommender Systems on Music Streaming Platforms". Peter will help us understand the complex algorithms and data-driven decision-making processes behind these systems, and how they can be designed to promote trust and accountability for users, artists, and platform operators alike. Whether you're a casual listener or a devoted music fan, this is a conversation you won't want to miss." Danni Intro: "Our last guest on today's Trustworthy Autonomous Systems Hub podcast is Danny Zhang, who has been working on the project "Principles for Building Fair and Trustworthy Autonomous Fraud Detection in Retail". In this project, Danny and her colleagues are tackling the complex and sensitive issue of fraud detection in retail, where AI and other automated systems are increasingly being used to identify suspicious behavior and transactions. But how can we ensure that these systems are accurate, reliable, and fair, and don't perpetuate biases or discriminate against certain groups?
