Send us a text It's coming... like a runaway train the 2024 election is heading towards us at speed and there's a lot of anxious people out there and in here. Join me as I think about the possible scenarios of either outcome and consider the different aspects of our current political moment. I hope you enjoy the episode. Send us a text It's March, 2024 and the presidential election has officially kicked off with only 1 candidate from each major political party. Once again, Joe Biden and Donald Trump are on the ballot and America is super bummed out about it. The thing is, it's a really close race even though one of the candidates is a malignant narcissist and an indicted co-conspirator in a plot to overturn democratic government. The current wisdom is that the public isn't tuned in and that people don't remember what Trump was like as a leader. So, I'm providing a bit of a reminder. I've done a contrast of the candidates, reviewed the Trump agenda for a 2nd term, and provided an overview of his criminal and civil cases. I hope you'll listen and I hope you'll please share it with anyone you know who might not have made up their mind. If you'd like to contact me with questions or comments - no threats or overtly mean comments please - I invite you to reach out to my email: suzimakesapodcast@gmail.com or you can find me on Instagram @suzimakesapodcast.…

Send us a text The Deep State! What is it? There's an awful lot of chatter about it within the Republican party and especially from the former President. Whatever it is, it's really bad and you should be afraid of it! That's the idea, apparently. Well, I've got some thoughts about that and I've put them here like a tiny little terrarium of succulent ideas. Enjoy!…
Send us a text My son, Wyatt was kind enough to sit down with me to do an interview. He's 10 years old and starting 5th grade. I think he's a great conversationalist and I hope you enjoy our discussion.
Send us a text Propaganda! It's everywhere. We all know it. We all see it. So much so that we've become a little casual about its potential effects in our society. In this episode, I'm talking about propaganda... obviously? What is it? Why is it? And what does it do to us as a culture? I hope you enjoy it!…
Send us a text Here's a little one addressing my thoughts on the recent announcement of the indictment of the former President. As the pebble that precedes the avalanche, we're getting a good preview of things to come. Nothing like this has ever happened in our history and the ways that people deal with it will be both unpredictable and scary. Let's talk about it... it's all gonna be okay.…
Send us a text Justice is an elusive concept that humans seek as part of our every day lives. It's complex and messy just like everything else about humanity. In this series of episodes, I'm exploring ideas about justice and how they shape American ideas of society, law and order, and equity. In Part 1, I'm talking about broad concepts of justice and looking at some specific historical examples of justice that have informed current day thinking.…
Send us a text In this part of a series on justice, I'm taking a close look at J. Edgar Hoover. Serves him right. He spent his whole life doing that to others without their knowledge or consent!
Send us a text In this final episode on justice, I'm talking a bit about justice in the modern day and some different thinkers and ideas about justice. Some of those people's ideas have influenced me and I think they are all voices worth paying attention to. Here are some examples: Kimberly Crenshaw - Critical Race Theory: The Key Writings That Formed the Theory Nikole Hannah-Jones - The 1619 Project Ta-Nehisi Coates - We Were 8 Years In Power: An American Tragedy Olufhemi O Taiwo: Reconsidering Reparations…
Send us a text The Media... we all talk about it like it's some kind of living entity that plops around and forces its girth upon us in unpleasant ways. Yet, it is but a collection of messages that are submitted to our sensory holes in inundating ways. How do we process all of this information and especially in a world so connected by information? In this episode, I explore the epistemic processes that we use to formulate belief and why those processes drive us to compartmentalize information in the most practical of ways. Join me to hear about how those processes manifest themselves in our lives and our culture to emerge into the thing we call the Media.…

Send us a text I think about women a lot. Probably cuz I am one, but also because I think about humans a lot and women are humans, most people agree. In this series, I'm exploring the idea of womanhood. I'm talking about women's roles in history and how different cultural forces have shaped our understanding of women and gender. In this first episode in the series, I'm looking at the history of women and feminism. Hang out for a while!…
Send us a text In this second episode exploring women and gender, I'm talking way too much about the English monarchy and, in particular, how Elizabeth I and her successor James I, shaped our current day thinking about women in power roles and women in society. The English crown is full of hot goss... come on it and luxuriate in the weirdness.…
Send us a text In this final installment on women and gender, I'm discussing the idea of gender as a social construct and shaped through an established patriarchal architecture. It's a lot more fun than it sounds. Curious? Join me!
Send us a text Welcome back! In this episode, I'm discussing the idea of rights... their origin, their function, and what does it mean to have a right within a society. I hope you enjoy it!
Send us a text In this 2nd part of a discussion of rights, I'm looking at rights within a framework of power and the concept of winning and how it informs our negotiation of conflicts of rights. It's good stuff... come on in, the water's fine.
Send us a text In this final installment on a discussion of rights and power, I'm talking about principles of fear and how basic features of humanity inform how we assert rights, how we manage conflicts of rights, and a contemplation of ways to better manage those conflicts by thinking differently about how they come to be and what is driving them.…
