When a young Eva Kollisch arrives as a refugee in New York in 1940, she finds a community among socialists who share her values and idealism. She soon discovers ‘the cause’ isn’t as idyllic as it seems. Little does she know this is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to activism and her determination to create radical change in ways that include belonging, love and one's full self. In addition to Eva Kollisch’s memoirs Girl in Movement (2000) and The Ground Under My Feet (2014), LBI’s collections include an oral history interview with Eva conducted in 2014 and the papers of Eva’s mother, poet Margarete Kolllisch, which document Eva’s childhood experience on the Kindertransport. 💬 Show Notes Welcome to the very first episode of the Creative and Curious Podcast! I'm Leanne, your host, an illustrator, writer, and the creative mind behind Frame Your World Co. This podcast is all about exploring creativity, the little moments that inspire us, and the joy of embracing our curious minds. Today, I'll be sharing my own creative journey, how I find inspiration in everyday life, and what you can look forward to in future episodes. So grab a coffee, pull up a chair, and let's have a chat. From childhood memories of doodling daisies to starting my first business at twelve, my creative journey has been a tapestry of experiences. I reflect on how art became more than just a pastime—it was a way to understand the world, express myself, and cope with life's challenges. I also share the pivotal moments that sparked my passion for creating a business with a purpose, inspired by companies like Tom’s Shoes and Pencil to Promise. Running a creative business like Frame Your World Co comes with its own set of challenges, from imposter syndrome to juggling a day job. Yet, it's the milestones—like creating 800 custom prints for a business in Oxford or touching someone's life with a heartfelt quote—that make it all worthwhile. I believe in celebrating these wins, big and small, and I encourage you to do the same. Have you ever felt the spark of joy from something you've created? I'd love to hear your stories, so please share them with me on Instagram @leannemacduff or drop me a message. Let's build a space where we can inspire and encourage each other. 00:00:00 " The creative and curious podcast is all about exploring creativity, the little moments 00:02:38 " Think back to the earliest moments of creating for me, what inspired me 00:11:41 " Running a creative business is not without its challenges 00:13:56 " For some, reaching a milestone means launching your first product or receiving feedback 00:15:20 " One customer bought a print of mine at a craft market in Oxfordshire 00:17:04 " This is the first episode of the creative and curious podcast 00:18:12 " Before we wrap up, I just wanted to share a small way that you may support meIn future episodes, you can expect deep dives into all things creative, from the ups and downs of running a creative business to finding inspiration in everyday moments. We'll also venture into some of my favourite places, whether it's hunting for the best coffee cake in Scotland or sharing travel guides from adventures further afield. Thank you so much for tuning in to the very first episode of the Creative and Curious Podcast. If you're loving what you hear, I've set up a Buy Me a Coffee page, which is a little like a tip jar that helps keep the creativity and this podcast flowing.
