An article came across our radar recently about how Emt's deserve nothing and should be grateful for the opportunity (basically.) So we are isolating five points from the article and will be discussing it amongst Charles McFall, Douglas Spencer, and Tom Kamplain. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/emsunderground/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/emsunderground/support…
EMSU: What Does Oversight Look Like? Charles and Douglas have been discussing recent events and the idea of an oversight committee keeps coming up. Tom has said it many times also. So today we are playing a mind game of what a committee would look like, what it would do, and where we hope it would take EMS and Fire. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/emsunderground/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/emsunderground/support…
I have seen a theme in our current world of people rushing to get through, get things done, or trying to find the easy way. So on today's EMS Underground Douglas and I will be talking about the value of actually putting the work in. From education of ourselves and others to running our calls, we see the range of easy way to put in the effort. Come tell us why the work should be done vs its fine to be quick and easy. Today I wanted to take some crossover topics like hazmat, incident command, and even scene safety and explore the differences between how EMS and Fire operate. Douglas Spencer joins me today again as we have a discussion on prepping educational presentations. That leads to a discussion of the National Registry and how it is viewed. We get onto the topic of volunteer firefighters, mandates, and other disagreements, but a late question brought everything full circle. I start talking about always practicing your IV's as you go down the road and Douglas' statement about critical thinking brings home a point that we all should be teaching. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/emsunderground/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/emsunderground/support…

I received this question from a viewer/listener. "Amr giving EMT's and medics an opportunity to buy body armor. Does that mean they are going to have to go into unsafe situations? If that's the case why not arm the staff? What about staged calls, when officer's don't clear the scene? Finally, untrained new police officer's do they have enough training to make EMT's and medics feel safe doing their job? And how stations are handling this along with COVID?" I am doing my best to answer all of this today on EMS Underground. It took me a while to learn how to ride with anyone for 24 hours. Nowadays 12 hours is the standard and yet we still have difficulty getting along. I went to the protest in Covington GA today and wasn't sure what I expected to see. Sometimes in life, you go somewhere because there is an unknown opportunity waiting for you. I had one of the most honest conversations I have ever had ever. And this one was with perfect strangers which by nature does not lend itself to open and free discourse. I take a few minutes to explain the lead-up, and then you get 40 minutes or so of unedited raw conversation that I believe was important. Understand that you will hear raw feelings, misunderstandings, and disagreements but that we all had one intent - to converse as best we could and to listen as best we could. Please listen with an open mind. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/emsunderground/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/emsunderground/support…

In today's episode I take some talking points from the chat room. We start talking about what essential is and then dive into the abuse of employees vs times are tough. This leads to a discussion of gratitude and being appreciated. Being appreciated is different than feeling appreciated. Bouncing back and forth from talking and chatting live I end up discussing PPE. I use Chic-Fil-A drive through as an example of how improper use of PPE can have the intended effect of calming people down. And sometimes all we need is to achieve a goal instead of actually protecting anything. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/emsunderground/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/emsunderground/support…
This is simply a drive by check up on my people in the field. I am giving words of encouragement, checking on how the world looks from the dash of the ambulance, and trying to bring some reality into talking about covid-19. Company loyalty is a fine line. Yes, you should always do your best job you can do But sometimes loyalty means stagnation and it's not always reciprocated. Your priorities should be just like the rules of EMS. Protect yourself first is scene safe protective equipment. Protect your interests first is to make sure you are getting what you want out of your career and being honest about your expectations in working for your employer. myemsconed.com georgiaemt.com --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/emsunderground/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/emsunderground/support…

This is the unedited audio from the Ad-Hoc meeting to review Grady's performance in South Fulton county. It was recorded from a distance and isn't the best quality but you can hear most of it clearly. So now it's up to you to listen and ask the questions that are unanswered and make up your own mind. It seems that our industry/profession tends too be very negative and distrusting. Even worse is we tend to form opinions and speak on things that we know nothing about. Today I am asking the question why are we this way and how do we change it? As we do the topic will stray into things you say on scene, opinions about medical staff, and other areas. So I ask you what is one thing you formed an opinion on without knowing anything about it? In todays society we expect to have an ambulance when we end it. I’m talking about service and not run times. So if one service leaves we expect another one to fill in the gap. But what happens when a service goes under and no one is there to catch the fall out? This happens beyond 911. It happens in non-emergency services, event services, fire departments, and even police departments. Today we will be talking about the warning signs and what you should to do.
