Picking up where we left off last week, Mitch and Rich continue their discussion with Cedar Glade Brews owner Jonathan, and their head brewer Robert. This time around, we've thrown dry January to the side and hopped on the "Damp January" trend (shout out to Jonathan for the term)! Because no beer podcast session is complete without... well... BEER, the boys go down the line of Cedar Glade's newest lineup! Beers Consumed: Chocolate Milk Stout Prototype 2 : A sweet, but not syrupy, creamy, chocolatey easy drinker that is made with the same chocolate as the award winning chocolate milk. This beer tastes EXACTLY like a chocolate milk, and that is DANGEROUS! This partnership brew between Cedar Glade Brews and MTSU college in Murfreesboro delivers a 5.6% dream. Lump of Coal: a heavy robust 9/1% imperial stout that is both hearty and satisfying. This beer was fully designed to go in to a barrel, but they decided to take a portion of it and put it on tap... Does this mean we're going to get a barrel aged version down the line? Only time will tell! Wintry Mix: Featuring all the tastes of winter--cranberry, orange, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and nutmeg--this slightly sour light refreshing beer is a perfect blend of spice and fruit and tart to warm you from the inside out! Semich: THIS BEER DOES NOT SUCK! Several yeasts were used that included native TN yeasts. Then it aged for over 2 years. The resulting beer is quite sour, extremely flavorful and absolutely wonderful. Brewed in Memory of Michael Semich, a founding member of Mid State Brew Crew. RIP Mike Thanks to Robert and Jonathan for their always welcoming experience- we love talking to these guys and we cant wait to see where our partnership goes in the future! Mitch and Rich are back at Cedar Glade Brews, and once again they're are joined by one of the owners Jonathan, and their head brewer Robert! Taking a different approach this time around, the guys focused on Dry January, and how breweries are weaving the concept in to their business models. In this episode of Dry January, Cedar Glade takes the Foamy Heads through a list of N/A beverages- Whether you're just looking to cut back for a month, make a lifestyle change, or simply support a fellow friend in their N/A journey, there is something out there for anyone during Dry January. The crew starts with a list spritzers boosted with organic Reishi mushrooms, crafted by Little Saints: Paloma: Mixes notes of grapefruit, citrus rinds and a hint of agave. Spicy Margarita: Mixes notes of juicy lime, mild jalapeno, orange blossom; visually yellow like the sunset (colored by turmeric). Negroni Spritz: Brings tasting notes of bitters, orange rind and juniper, with a hint of bubbles. Ginger Mule: Mixes notes of ginger beer, lime and a slight hint of lavender. Taking a break from the spritzers, the guys move on to N/A beers, followed by a CBD infused cider. Collective arts. "Emerald Stout": with no alcohol, but with "all the flavor" (according to Collective Arts), this beer has familiar notes and feel of a regular stout. This beer has notes of burnt coffee and a slight rich chocolate backbone. Clausthaler Dry Hopped: Full-bodied and hoppy with hints of malty caramel, Clausthaler Dry-Hopped is a beer connoisseur’s dream. As the first non-alcoholic of its kind, it brings together German craftsmanship, the world’s foremost non-alcoholic brewing technique, and Cascade Hops imported from the USA. This unique combination makes for an unmistakable citrus aftertaste and an amber beer with real character. Compared to Clausthaler Unfiltered, Clausthaler Dry Hopped has a distinctive malty character with a dark golden color. Otto's dry hopped CBD infused cider: this is the pure example of "N/A drinks can still be fun!" This dry hopped CBD infused cider is sweet, hoppy, and all around great tasting. This cider was a hit amongst everybody, and Cedar Glade sells these by the boat load! And what good is a drinking session if you aren't caffeinated and alert? Shout out to Brasshorn coffee roasters, the official coffee roaster of Cedar Glade Brews! Their roaster, Jeremy, focusses his attention on the specifics of coffee, ensuring every product produced is the best product produced. Thanks to Brasshorn for keeping us caffeinated during the show! What's next with the Cedar Glade and Foamy Heads group? Well we just got in to our Dry January drinks... Tune in next episode for something a little more... moist... Here goes 2025! The first episode of the year is a reflection on 2024 as Mitch and Rich reminisce about the the unique challenges experienced in the craft beer industry, as well as some of the awesome experiences the Foamy Heads got to experience. Beers consumed: Little Animals Brewery Emerald Sword Belgian Pale ale: Brewed with Riverbend malt Pilsner plus a kiss of flaked wheat, hopped with a generous amount of whole flower Crosby hops Sterling, and fermented with a blend of classic Belgian yeasts. Punchy, mouth coating, herbal/floral hoppy goodness with a pleasant, palate cleansing bitter punch Cedar Glade Longhunter IPA: A traditional American IPA that was crafted using American hops to produce a prominent citrus, floral and piney hop aroma. Smooth mouth feel without the hop driven astringency balanced by a strong malt back bone Mitch and Rich were, and continue to be, extremely grateful for all the love shown to us in 2024, and we look forward to a prosperous year ahead! let's go 2025! Once Boomer Rich gets his microphone situation resolved, Mitch recounts his Great American Beer Festival Weekend. Starting with the 15 year running Rare Beer Festival, hosted by Pints for Prostates, Mitch discusses all the rare beers he was able to experience, including the ever-exclusive Sam Adams Utopias! Mitch then turns his attention to GABF, where he got to experience beers from breweries all over the US, including Weldwerks and Russian River! Even the Black is Beautiful series makes an appearance! Beers Rich Consumed: Hi-Wire Zirkusfest Oktoberfest: This traditional Marzen boasts all the flavors one wants in a rich Oktoberfest lager without the heavy finish. The use of Munich malt provides upfront biscuity and honey flavors that fade into a dry finish. At 6% ABV, this beer goes down easy! Tailgate Project Coffee & Cream: A rich, chocolatey stout base with woody, bourbon notes finished with light roast coffee, vanilla, and sweet cream. Beers Mitch Consumed: Southern Grist/Proper Sake Koji Gold lager: A super crisp Japanese style lager beer made with Koji Rice and Sorachi Ace Hops. Refreshing, smooth, and a low 4% ABV. Special Guests: Jonathan : an entrepreneur at heart, Jonathan made his way from teaching/coaching, to real estate, and then decided to dip his foot in the craft beer industry. He ended up buying Cedar Glade Brews and is an active member in the company. Robert : head brewer at Cedar Glade Brews, Robert had been home brewing for almost 10 years before moving out west to pursue brewing as a professional career. With accolades such as working at Anheuser Busch and finishing his degree at MTSU in Murfreesboro, TN, Robert ended up at Cedar Glade after reaching out and joining Jonathan while he was in college. Beers consumed: Lytle Creek Lager : a 5.1% ABV premium American lager, this flagship beer is named after the tributary off of stones river in Murfreesboro, TN. With notes of citrus and honey, this easy drinking lager is an easy sell for non-craft beer drinkers looking for something when they walk in to the brewery. Berliner Off Broad (BOB) : A super crisp, clean, and (only) slightly tart kettle sour that clocks in at an easy 4.4% ABV. While this beer can be enjoyed "as is," Cedar Glade loves to kick it up a notch and provide different flavorings to completely change up the flavor profile! Longhunter IPA : Cedar Glade's traditional west coast IPA, coming in at a big 7.1% ABV. The American hops produce a prominent citrus, floral, and piney hop aroma. The munich malt addition adds a bigger/gritty body to the back end. Nuttin' but Fun : A toasted pecan porter made with 25lbs of real, crushed pecans! This porter is not overly sweet or heavy like porters can be and is perfect for cool weather sitting by the fire. Special Edition Brews for the 2024 International FolkFest: Furiant Fuel: A 5.4% ABV super crisp Czech pilsner with just enough hoppiness while retaining the super clean finish the style promises. Just like the dance it's named after! Cotswold Morris ESB : Perfectly balanced with some roasty malt character- just enough to get the Cotswold Morris vibes going! Jarabe-ing in the Dark Mexican Lager : Hinting at a Vienna lager heritage while giving a nod to the addition of various grains Mexico allows in creating their style of lager, this beer is smooth and has notes of chocolate! Clocking in at an easy 5.1% ABV, its something we can drink all day and in any weather! We can't thank the Cedar Glade guys enough for hosting us at the brewery and being so hospitable with their brews! And a special thanks to Jonathan and Robert for taking time out of their busy schedules to talk to us! On today's episode of "Mitch once again travels to greater Nashville from Chattanooga", the boys end up at Cedar Glade Brews in Murfreesboro. Rich gets schooled on the difference between a kettle sour and the other sour variants. Robert gets pranked by Jonathan about his beer being "just OK," and the guys all end with some special beers and sakes. Special Guests: Jonathan : an entrepreneur at heart, Jonathan made his way from teaching/coaching, to real estate, and then decided to dip his foot in the craft beer industry. Mitch heads to San Diego for vacation! As the guys share experiences about the west coast breweries, Mitch shares 2 of the good brews he was able to bring back with him: Cellermaker brewing Timbo Pils: Highland Park Brewing is one of the best breweries in LA and its surrounding areas, and they're always looking to spread the good word of beer with collaborations! Each year, in honor of Timbo Week, Highland Park's famous west coast pilsner "Timbo Pils" is brewed by specific breweries, and Mitch was able to score the Cellarmaker variant! Timbo Pils takes a West Coast IPA and runs it through the lager machine to get an even cleaner and crisper hoppy beer. With a medium sized dry hop of Mosaic and Citra, Timbo has super rad aromas of marijuana, grapefruit and ripe guava. Blasts of citrus pith and pine sap dominate the flavor with hints of grainy pilsner malt in the background. In short, this 5.8% ABV screams hops from the minute it's popped, and it's amazing! Russian River Brewing Row 2, Hill 256: It's no secret that Russian River Brewing is a world class operation with world class beers! Row 2, Hill 256 is no exception. 100% Simcoe hops make up this beer from start to finish! It is named for the location in the experimental hop yard in Yakima, WA, where it was first created. It has that trademark Simcoe nose with citrus and pine, nice bitterness and tasty hop flavors round it out. This week, the Foamy Heads continue with the local scene! Mitch and Rich were honored to host community focused and 2024 Nashville Predators Craft Beer Festival winners Dark Shadow Brewing Company as we talk about the great beers that Rachel and Keith are brewing up! Beers Highlighted: Honey Lavender Blonde: Rachel's brainchild and winner of the Murfreesboro Shakespeare festival for best beer! This easy drinking light ale is rich with honey and has a touch of lavender on the back end. Pie Gose With Everything: Key Lime gose with lactose and cinnamon graham crackers balances out the tartness of this tasty brew. As Rich tries more goses, he continuously learns that they are becoming a style of beer he would drink in the summer time. Midwest Brown IPA: 7.1% beer that is not overly hoppy and has a slight brown hue. Roasty caramel malts mute the IBUs in this IPA. This one went down easy! Dark Cherry IPA: 8.6% dry hopped cherry IPA, this is a big boy! The Nashville Predators Craft Beer Festival is consistently one of the most anticipated beer events of the year! Like last year, The Foamy Heads, this time with guest host Shane Gibbs, had the privilege of streaming live from the festival. While the guys were broadcasting live from the Bridgestone Arena Barrel House on the concourse in 2023, this year they got to be right in the middle of the action down on the ice! To top off the evening, Special guests Steve and Scott from the Brewery Underground Podcast made a surprise appearance on the show! Big thanks to them for showing up! Guest Speakers: Chad from Tennfold Brewing is wearing his sunglasses at night while we discuss the 4 beers they brought to the festival. While all beers were great, the one that stood out the most was the Toasted Coconut Porter! Jarrod Stover from Old Abe's Brew, Clarksville's first microbrewery. Access to Burial Beer from Asheville, NC, is a rare opportunity for markets. However, thanks to Mitch, the guys had the opportunity of sampling several of their offerings. In the first part of this two-part series, Mitch and Rich review Burial's latest pilsner, as well as the Heavy Resin edition of an exceptional IPA. Beers we drink: Threads Pilsner: This 4.9% ABV pilsner is fermented with an experimental thio-maximizing yeast and hopped with Mittelfruh and Motueka hops. The precise combination of hops, fermentation and flora provides an insane dose of Welch's sparkling white grape, white raspberry gummies, Finger Lake sweet Riesling, and lemon-frosted granola. Brewed in collaboration with Okay Beer Company out of Honeoye Falls, NY. Savages of Ruminating Minds: With an average 4.2/5 rating on Untappd and a 93 on Beer Advocate, this 50 IBU heavy resin edition KICKS it up a notch from its original variant! Double dry hopped with Mosaic, Motueka, and Idaho 7, this beer is beaming with loads of pineapple candy, orange pulp, and blueberry kush. The Foamy Heads are back with their first episode since the live show at Bearded Iris Sylvan Supply! In this episode, Mitch and Rich take listeners on a journey from Nashville to Athens, GA. Join Mitch and Rich as they sit down with special guests Michelle Edge and Asa Harrell from Creature Comforts Brewing. Long-time listeners will also remember Michelle from a 2022 episode! Beers we drink: Bibo Pilsner: This ~5% ABV pilsner is so clean and crisp that Mitch had half his drink finished before he even realized it! Tune in to learn the story behind its name. Tropicalia IPA: The Creature Comforts beer that started it all for Rich. This 6.6% ABV beverage is soft, juicy, and hopped with Rich's favorite hops, Citra and Galaxy. Tropicalia was such a hit upon release that it even made a cameo in some Marvel movies! Listen out for more fun facts. Bigger Dreams Hazy IPA: Slightly higher in ABV, this 6.8% beer is an insanely drinkable hazy IPA- released in winter 2023 to the Georgia market only, it became the fourth best-selling item in the entire GA market! Since then, it's been gradually rolling out to broader markets. Tritonia Gose with Cucumber and Lime: Part of the Paradiso series, this refreshing gateway sour Gose is brewed with cucumber, lime, sea salt, and coriander. It's gently tart, super low in ABV, and perfect for summer sipping. Mitch and Rich were extremely humbled to be able to talk to Michelle and Asa, and to discuss their love of the craft and their dedication to an amazing brewery. When Nike's annual Air Max day (March 26th) arrives each year to commemorate the iconic Air Max sneaker line and its impact on sneaker culture, Nike often releases special edition Air Max sneakers. But Craig Stroud, lover of craft beer and fresh sneakers, wanted to take it a step further by fusing his 2 passions together in a mashup that makes so much sense when you say it out loud! And simply put, ALE MAX DAY was born- the "celebration of ale and air!" And who better to partner with than one of the biggest influencers in the craft beer industry- ATL's own Ale Sharpton, known for his fresh style and love and knowledge of the craft beer industry! In celebration of the 2nd annual ALE MAX day, Mitch and Rich were blessed with the opportunity to sit down with creator Craig Stroud, Ale Sharpton, and marketing director Christina Albetta to discuss the how and the why behind the day that everyone looks forward to. It's an event that goes beyond the celebration of ale and air by ensuring the needs of those struggling in our communities are met. PAWKids: Demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility, ALE MAX will be donating a portion of beer sales to PAWKids – an incredible, Atlanta-based nonprofit and community hub that exists to support and provide holistic resources to children and families in need. Gateway Center: We welcome everyone to donate gently used sneakers during Ale Max Day at @mondaynightgarage, on March 22, from 7 to 11 pm.! The amazing, ATL-based nonprofit @gatewayctr will be collecting donations for both men and women experiencing homelessness. A free draft beer will be rewarded to donors courtesy of ALE MAX and Monday Night! This year's release is definitely amped up, as the release of the ALE MAX 1 IPA is being brewed at both Monday Night Brewing (ATL) and Bearded Iris (Nashville)! So whether you're in ATL or Nashville, make sure to stop by and pick up a fresh draft of the ALE MAX 1, and grab a 4 pack before you go! Mitch, Rich, Ale, and Craig look forward to seeing you at either of the below locations as ALE MAX DAY kicks in to action tonight! 3/22/24: Monday Night Garage (Atlanta, GA), 7-11pm EST 3/23/24: Bearded Iris Sylvan Supply (Nashville, TN), 4-8pm CST Socials: Ale Sharpton: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/realalesharpton/ Blog: https://alesharpton.blogspot.com/2024/02/ale-max-returns-to-fuse-craft-beer.html?m=1 Craig Stroud: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/craigstroud313/ Bearded Iris: Website: beardedirisbrewing.com Instagram: www.instagram.com/beardediris Facebook: www.facebook.com/beardedirisbrewing Sylvan Supply Website: https://beardedirisbrewing.com/location/sylvan-supply/ Monday Night Brewing: Garage Location Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mondaynightgarage/ Home Base Location Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mondaynight/ Foamy Heads Podcast: Website: https://thefoamyheads.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/foamyheads Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thefoamyheads Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2lcTXdrq51ZeCEbcJTv4Dz Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-foamy-heads/id1460465040 ---------------------------------------------------------------- #craftBeer #craftBrew #beer #newEpisode #hops #ipa #stout #podcast #liveShow #cigars #beerPairing #AleMax #Ale #Alesharpton…
Join Mitch and Rich alongside special guest Shane Gibbs from House of Dogs Brewing as they take their craft beer discussions from the studio to the stage for the first time at Bearded Iris Brewing in Sylvan Supply! This special live show brings together a diverse lineup of guests, each with their unique perspective on the world of craft beer, and anything that accompanies a glass! Show Lineup: Rachel Krebs-Trisilla and her husband, owners of Dark Shadow Brewing, share insights into their brewing journey and the inspiration behind their innovative beer creations. Nathan Benevelli, representing the Nashville Craft Beer Social Club, serves the community through beer by fostering a vibrant and inclusive beer culture, organizing events, tastings, and educational sessions that bring beer enthusiasts together, while also supporting local breweries Adding a touch of sophistication to the conversation is CL Treece from Whisky and Sticks cigar lounge in Murfreesboro, TN, who shares his expertise on pairing cigars with craft beer, elevating the tasting experience to new heights. Last and certainly never least, Shane Gibbs from House of Dogs Brewing keeps the discussion going, offering a behind-the-scenes look into the art of brewing and the passion driving the craft beer industry forward. Throughout the live show, Mitch and Rich guide the conversation from beer brewing techniques, pairing beers with cigars, and to the cultural significance of craft beer in the local community. And while Mitch and Rich were able to keep their thoughts together and their wits about them, it became increasingly difficult as they enjoyed vintage stouts from the amazing brewers at Bearded Iris. New Year, old memories! Mitch and Rich sit down and focus on Nashville beers, tap rooms, and breweries. The guys are putting together some special events, so in the meantime let's pull an old episode out of the archives! Beers we drink: Panther Creek "The Quencher": a 5.5% light bodied easy drinking juicy lager derived from copious amounts of late addition hops crafted to encapsulate the flavors and aromas of a tropical summer. Light crisp and lower abv Bearded Iris Blind Ambition: An 8% imperial stout featuring the dark chocolate nuttiness of cacao nibs and light, bright orange peel. Ah, it sounds like Mitch and Rich are brewing up a blast! The boys sit down with Nathan, owner and founder of the Nashville Craft Beer Social Club to swap stories and sip brews. The fun starts when the guys discuss the most recent event- the 12 days of beermas, a huge beer swap in the Nashville beer community where each day brings a new, flavorful surprise! Discussion then turns to the Nashville Craft Beer Social Club mission- to give back to the community through the love of craft beer, and the methods used to do it. They're not just raising their glasses; they're raising spirits by bringing their community together through their love for craft beer. This is a fun back and forth discussion between good company, great brews, and spreading cheer, one sip at a time. Cheers to that! Some time ago, Mitch and Rich sat down with Bob and Shane from BS Brew Works to experience Robertson County's sole brewery and taproom. Those familiar with BS Brew Work's beers know that their Black Patch porter is a roasted mild porter with a lot of flavor. On our way out, they gifted us with a limited edition set of Black Patch Barrel Aged Porters- both original and Vanilla variants. Join Mitch and Rich as they discuss the details of each of these great tasting brews! What is one of the best pairings with a good dark beer? How about a great cigar! Mitch and Rich take a small detour from the usual brewery visits and, instead, focus on the love of the cigar craft. The guys sit down with owner and entrepreneur CL of Whisky & Stsicks, Murfreesboro’s newest luxury cigar lounge. Being able to pair a great beer with a great cigar creates an unparalleled relaxing experience, as cigars truly accompany the craft beer mindset. The guys are humbled by CL, as he walks us through his experience in the cigar industry, as well as its comparisons and contrasts to the beer industry. We drink: Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout 2020. The cigars goes great with this beer! its intense aroamas of charred oak, vanilla, caramel, and smoke compliment the medium bodied cigars. Starlight Distillery Single Barrel Bourbon Barrel Whiskey finished in apple brandy barrels, with barrels selected by Ghostown Barrel Ventures. The apple brandy is the star of the show! That flavor punches through right from the start, and it stays with you all the way to the finish. Talk about a warm hug! This whiskey perfectly compliments the cigar. We Smoke: Rich: Blanco 2nd third from the Cigar Obsession line. This cigar is mild to medium bodied with a very smooth taste. This cigar is consistent in its entirety! The flavor stays with you from start to finish. It balances out the strong flavors of the BCBS Mitch: Luj Anniversary #4 box press: peppery notes on this box press cigar are not powerful enough to overwhelm the flavors of the stout- rather they compliment the brew nicely. Light coffee notes begin to show up as Mitch continues burning in to the 2nd third of the cigar. In this 2 part show, Mitch, Rich, and Shane hit the 2023 Craft Brewers Conference. After landing at the Pharmacy Burger Parlor and Beer Garden, the Foamy Heads were joined by Shane Gibbs from House of Dogs Brewing Company and manager of the Casual Pint in Smyrna, TN, Gary Lorio (Regional Account Manager for D&V International), and some heavy hitters in the Belgian beer industry to discuss the love of craft beer and tradition. During the first part, Gary introduced Amaury Kervyn D'oud Mooreghem of Brouwerij Verhaeghe. Originally known for their Duchesse de Bourgogne Flanders Red Ale, Amaury takes the guys thru the history of the brewery as well as the aging and tasting process. He then transitions towards the creation process of the (now) famous Duchesse Cherry, which involves an 18 month maturation in oak casks and an additional 6 month maceration process with real Belgian cherries. The Duchesse Chocolate Cherry Flanders Red Ales is a solid honorable mention as well. Pierre Mottet, representing Val-Dieu, joined the discussion next. He spoke about the uniqueness of their brewery, which is the only Abbey beer still brewing inside the monastery. They're known for their gold medal-winning Triple and Grand Cru, and their beer is linked to the city of Liège in Belgium. The Grand Cru was one of Rich's favorite- you can really taste the passion and attention to detail in these beers! Conversation also revolved around the Val-Dieu Blanche de Liège, a light and citrusy beer perfect for the warm weather. The hosts praised its smoothness and flavor profile, and Pierre revealed that they are also brewing a new version of the Blanche de Liège called Rosé, flavored with strawberries. After the break, Gary introduces Marco Passarella, sales manager from St. Bernardus/Brouwerij. Mitch gets extremely excited here, as St. Bernardus is the brewery that got him in to the craft beer scene. Marco's deep knowledge of the brewery's history, dedication, and even flavor profiles of the beers are next level. We drank the Watou Belgian wit, and finished off with the 75th Anniversary, a super rare beer with only 11,000 bottles made worldwide. Tucked away in the heart of Springfield, Tennessee's historic Main Street, BS Brew Works has become a beloved gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. As Robertson County's sole brewery and taproom, co-founders Bob and Shane - the 'B' and 'S' - along with Shane's wife Karen, have crafted not just an exceptional beer selection, but also a welcoming community hub. In a world where noise and distraction often reign supreme, BS Brew Works offers a respite from the chaos, inviting patrons to sit, chat, and perhaps even forge new friendships over a pint or two. Whether you're in search of your perfect brew or some delicious pub-style fare, come pay them a visit and experience the unique ambiance that sets BS Brew Works apart. Beers we discussed: Bobcat Blonde American Blonde Ale: easy drinking 4.6% blonde ale that packs a ton of flavor and goes down easy. Bob and Shane definitely started us off on the right food with this one Point Nine Pilsner: Slightly higher in ABV, this pilsner brings along all the flavor you expect in a good refreshing pilsner. Rich wasn't always in to pilsners (as he discusses), but Mitch slowly introduces him to the style, and now he tries to get them whenever he can. Needless to say, he was excited to see a good clean pilsner on tap! Sunny Vanilla Cream Ale: Orlinda, the city in Robertson County, TN is known as the "sunniest spot in TN." This beer was brewed with respect to that city, providing a refreshing taste with just a slight vanilla touch on the back end- reminding us of warm sunny days. and coming in at a light 4.8%, you can drink these all day! Barren Plains Amber: As the boys start to move towards the darker color scale of the flight, Bob and Shane introduce the Barren Plains Amber, a 5.2% amber lager that is full bodied and smooth, all while packing in a ton of flavor throughout. Midsummers Night Brown Ale: Tastes light, and pours dark... Malty with chocolate, coffe, and graham cracker. This 5.3% brown ale is not too sweet- it's perfect for that midsummer night! Shady West Coast IPA: Rich's favorite of the flight! this solid India Pale Ale harkens back to the west coast style that started the IPA craze in America. and the IBUs are not as high as Rich thought Marschwahnsinn Märzen: Well, this was a surprise! a Märzen in March? Is this a leftover keg from the Octoberfest season? Nope- BS Brew Works brews their Märzen style beer twice each year- once during Octoberfest season, and another during March Madn- ahem... the big basketball games during March (we can't legally say it on here)... The name is interesting, too, and quite a few people have different pronunciations- we'll let you listen in to find out! After some much needed time away, Mitch and Rich jump back on the mics to discuss their favorite topic- BEER! Both brews get high marks from the guys- no beer is perfect, but these get pretty close. Rich enjoys Southern Grist's 1000th unique beer, called... well... "1000th Unique Beer!" this New England double IPA is brewed with oats and is hopped with Citra (Rich's favorite hop), Galaxy (Rich's 2nd favorite hop), and Cashmere. The addition of oats creates a slightly creamy taste on a very juicy and hazy IPA. This beer is best enjoyed very cold, and Rich made sure to finish it before it warmed up too much. Mitch, on the other hand, went to the dark side. North Coast Brewing's Barrel-Aged Old Rasputin didn't stand a chance once he cracked open the bottle. Clocking in at 11.6%, this behemoth of an already excellent Russian Imperial Stout is aged in oak whiskey barrels, adding a level of complexity that amplifies the chocolate and espresso notes in the flavor profile. Mitch was quick to point out that it needs to warm up a bit before he can truly experience all of its flavors. From there, the discussion on the craft beer community begins. From brewery owners and head brewers, to experienced workers out in the field, Mitch and Rich already have discussions lined up that excites them for what 2023 has to offer. We hope you enjoy our thoughts and discussions, and we can't wait to share our year with beer to the community! Mitch and Rich land at Tanasi Brewing & Supplies. Named after the Cherokee word for TN and out of respect to the Cherokee tribes here before us, owner and operator Clinton Sallee graciously hosted us to a FULL FLIGHT of beers, and we couldn't have been more excited to oblige. This brewery retains the look of a gas station on the outside, but their “pumps” (or taps) located inside are meant to fill up your glass! Watermelon Crawl: A silver medal award from the U.S Open and making it the 2nd best hard seltzer in the United States, this 5.1% ABV beverage is as easy to drink as it is flavorful. Unlike most seltzers, this was intentionally brewed with less carbonation to make it easier on the stomach. Harvest Moon: This Kentucky Common is the brother of its more commonly known California Common, but less citrus forward. Coming in at 5.5% ABV and 22 IBU, this silver medal-awarded beer is creamy, light, and extremely complex from start to finish. 3 Hops & A Kot: Named after the military term 3 hots and a cot, Clinton created this 5.2% / 27 IBU Historical Beer/Kotbusser using sourwood honey and molasses to create a beer that changes flavors from molasses to honey as it warms up. Clinton gives us a lesson on glassware and serving beer at different temperatures. Cheeky Wanker: The Beer Judge Certification Program organization dictates how a beer should look, taste, smell, and everything else... "Cheeky Beers" do not meet their strict specifications. Meet Cheeky Wanker, a 5.2% traditional southern English brown ale brewed with Dunkelweizen yeast- basically creating a hybrid of 2 different beers! Not overly sweet, this brew has slight notes of banana and clove on the finish, all while sticking to the traditional brown ale flavor One Moher Stout: Named after the Cliffs of Moher in the Republic of Ireland, this Irish Stout has a dry finish with roasted barley and chocolate malt notes, this 4.5% ABV 27 IBU brew was so easy to drink that Rich accidentally drank his whole pour during the rinse break without even realizing it! DMZ Dragon: Drinking this beer on national lager day! This brew is loaded with gochujang up front and kimchi on the finish. Notes of cabbage all throughout this beer make it an extremely interesting (and cloudy-looking) drink. 5.2% and 19 IBU Night In Cork: One of the best Irish Reds Mitch & Rich have had, this 5.1% ABV beer adds black malt to the amber grains which creates a blood-red-looking brew. Poivre Epice Saison: A Farmhouse Ale - Saison with Habanero Peppers, 6.4% ABV, 19 IBU. This beer is "present but not painful" (as described by Clinton). Mitch loves this beer, as the peppery notes are right up his alley! Indigenous People: At this point, words become hard for Rich… Maybe too many beers? Either way, this American Amber beer is named after Indigenous People Day (which is right after Thanksgiving) to celebrate the people here before us. Easy drinking, but the 5.7% ABV will sneak up on you. Hazy Ridge: Rich is all about hazies, and this one was awesome. He even went back later that evening to order a full pour! Clocking in at 6.9% and 59 IBUs, this brew was a great finisher to the flight. Mitch and Rich go on the road and land in Chattanooga, TN! The city's beer scene has expanded even since the last time we visited. However, we started with the roots- Chattanooga Brewing Company. General Manager Alex and brewer James join us on the show and walk us through the many rounds of graciously provided beers: Chattahooligan Kolsch: a 4.2% easy drinking kolsch, brewed originally for the Chattanooga Football Club. This seasonal brew became so popular that it made its way in to the year round rotation. Extremely drinkable, brewed with Spalter Select hops to give a slight floral aroma and provides a crisp, clean finish. Chestnut Street Brown Ale: Named after the street in which Chattanooga Brewing resides, this fairly straight forward brew uses a large amount of Munich malt to bring the bready and biscuit flavor. Add some chocolate malts for the finish, and you have a 6.2% brown ale that is nothing to shy away from- but be careful because it drinks extremely easy for it's middle of the road ABV Palisades IPA: Featuring Centennial, Cascade, and dry hopped with Citra and Simcoe hops, this west coast IPA is not too "west coast" that it kicks you in the face- and the 6.5% ABV, think of this as an American IPA mixed with a west coast spin. Wildwood Kettle Sour with Blackberry and Sage: James and Alex set Rich's expectations and set the stage and, as usual, Rich is surprised that he likes (yet) another sour. Easy drinking, 5.2%, and lots of blackberry provides a lightly tart, yet sweet flavor. Add a solid malt backbone on the finish, and you're brought back to reality that this is, in fact beer- not juice. Oh, and this beer LOOKS beautiful. Hot Mama: Habanero Lager: Loaded with 40lbs of pure habanero juiced down in to concentrate, this beer starts with their base kolsch and adds a huge kick of fresh habanero peppers for a spicy but fresh peppery flavor. This beer works great for hot days, as it's refreshing at the same time! Obscurum Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout: This 10.1% barrel aged milk stout looks great, smells great, and TASTES DELICIOUS. Alex and James were kind enough to bring this big beer out as their finishing beer for us. Aged in Chattanooga Whiskey barrels, this brew boasts notes of vanilla, oak, cherry, and chocolate. Add a touch of milk sugar and you end with a thick, rich, dark, and smooth finish. Alex and James even brought out a separate bottle for Mitch and Rich to take back home with them- we plan on aging this for a few months! If you're a craft beer drinker and you've ever been to Knoxville, you've most likely enjoyed a pint (or 3) of delicious beer at Pretentious Beer Co, and most likely you've enjoyed that beer from some of their homemade wicked glassware. Located in the heart of downtown Knoxville, TN, their distribution footprint has previously excluded Nashville... Until now. When Mitch and Rich found out that Nashville was being added to their list, they excitedly made their way down to Craft Brewed to enjoy some suds during the Pretentious Beer tap takeover. But it didn't stop there. The Pretentious owner and head brewers themselves showed up and sat down with us for a few to discuss the brewery's history, current, and future plans. Rich and Mitch are hungry AND thirsty, so what better place to hit up than a great burger and beer joint? Cledis Burgers, who took over the Various Artists Brewery location, is home to Nashville's newest burger joint, alongside 24 ALL LOCAL ever-changing taps. While we do plan on talking to Shane Nasby (owner) in a future episode, the goal here was to take in the new scenery and support the local establishment. Rich and Mitch review a couple brews onsite while testing their new hardware setup. Beers Consumed: Enders New England IPA (Living Waters): 7.5% Double dry hopped New England style IPA with Mosaic, Simcoe, and Amarillo for a luscious and slightly decadent experience. Ryan and the boys at Living Waters DOES NOT MISS. Howling Winds Scotch Ale (TennFold): a 5.6% Scotch Ale that goes down too easy, yet contains lots of complex flavors and a slightly smoky backend. TennFold doing what they do best- low to mid ABV brews with loads of flavors that allow you to enjoy more than 1 in a single sitting Pick 6 Porter (New Heights): a roasty delicate porter with hints of chocolate and a slightly higher IBU count than usual for a porter. clocking in at 6% ABV and 32 IBUs, this is exactly what you'd expect from the boys (and girls) at New Heights- a porter with a west coast spin. Jon and LeBron Invite the Foamy Heads onsite to discuss Common John Brewing Co beers and to relay some details of their upcoming beer festival! There's so many great things happening and we had to talk to them about it. Located in Manchester, TN, Common John Brewing Co was birthed out of the desire to bring their homebrews to the masses. What they didn't expect was that their beer and presence would catch on quick. After just 2 years of being open, they own a massive space with lots of scenery, sitting, and space for live events- which will house their HUGE 2nd-year anniversary family reunion on Saturday, October 1st. Beers Consumed: Slow Down, Easy (Chapter VI): the 6th release of their hazy IPA series, coming in at a respectable easy 6.2% ABV. Produced with thiol boosting yeast to enhance the passion fruit, guava, and grapefruit aroma compounds from the hops. Hopped with Cryo Pop, Citra (Rich's favorite), and a new Vista hop (which Rich and Mitch hadn't heard of up to this point). The Darkness Callin': Black IPA/Cascadian Dark Ale: this almost 7% ABV Black IPA is the first release of its kind from Common John. Noticeably hoppier than other Black IPAs, this one was a hit with both Mitch and Rich! Straight & Narrow Colden Ale: easy drinking 4.2% golden ale that can be found on tap every day at CJBC. LeBron says this beer is so popular that if he stopped brewing it, he'd be dragged out to the parking lot and get knocked out! Better in the Fall Festbier: A brew golden in color all while being soft, sweet, and light. this 6% brew goes down easy and is great for the changing of the seasons! Heathen Child Vienna Lager: Intended to be a one-off, (read as the "Heathen Child"), the boys caved to the demand to bring this brew back. Slightly darker and higher in ABV than the traditional Vienna lager, this beer drinks smooth and packs a ton of flavor. Damage Control Pale Ale: Packed with Amarillo and Cascade hops, this 5.7% ABV and 50 IBU brew is the quintessential pale ale designed to make you forget about your worries. Deeper Purpose Porter: A slightly dry Porter with a touch of bitterness and full-bodied chocolate. At 5% ABV, it goes down easy but is a great sipper at the same time 2nd Year Anniversary Family Reunion Over 20 home brewers and 30 breweries from around TN Tickets are still available online at Tickets: Eventbrite General Admission may still be available on-site day of if you come in person to purchase them. The Foamy Heads take a break from their usual format of interviews with breweries in the industry. This episode focusses on Mitch and Rich enjoying 2 of Nashville's great Breweries- Bearded Iris and Living Waters! Today's episode is a great one! Beers Consumed: Bearded Iris & Hattie B's 10th Anniversary Ale: To celebrate Hattie B's 10th anniversary, they teamed up with Bearded Iris to brew this super crushable, low ABV fruited ale that goes down easy- and you'll be grateful it does because you'll need to keep this 4%er close by when eating that good hot chicken! While no Hattie B's was consumed during the making of this episode, Mitch and Rich get in to a discussion about how hot chicken has become of Nashville's staples. Living Waters Highgate (NCC-1701-H): This version of their experimental IPA series leaves you wanting another almost immediately! Soft, citrusy, and grassy, Ryan and the guys at Living Waters know exactly what they're doing. Clocking in slightly above 8%, it's a beer you can drink 2 of, but it's heavy enough to leave you feeling satisfied in the end. Oh, and it has Citra hops- so Rich is automatically on board! We had the pleasure of sitting down with One World Brewing owners Jay and Lisa at their west Asheville location. They were gracious enough to share with us their IPAs and their seltzer, and we even enjoyed their stout on the patio after words! Jay and Lisa were extremely hospitable, and the wealth of knowledge they bring to the beer industry is top notch. Join Mitch and Rich for the intricate discussion and experience! Beers drank include the Queen of the Forest IPA, Citra Bomb IPA, and even a raspberry hibiscus seltzer! We had the pleasure of talking face to face with some of the greatest beer folks in the community. They have collaborated to bring us a delicious stout in which our dollars go for a great cause. Join Mitch and Rich as they talk to Chad Mueller and Clayton Kendall (Tennfold), and Parker Loudermilk (Fait La Force) and dive into this freshly tapped stout that doesn't hold back on flavor. Here's the release information below: Per Tennfold (@tennfoldbrewing): "In support of Ukraine we wanted to find a way to help a pint at a time. The Fold along with @eastnashbeer and @faitlaforcebrewing are taking part in the Drinkers for Ukraine Campaign. We are excited to announce today we are tapping RESIST. 🇺🇦 This beer is an Anti-Imperial Stout originally created by Ukrainian brewers in solidarity. In an effort to raise money, for each of these pints sold, $2 will go to the Red Cross to help the Ukrainian people." Drinkers for Ukraine In solidarity with friends and colleagues in Ukraine, we’re coming together to raise funds for the Red Cross humanitarian relief effort in Ukraine following the Russian invasion in February 2022. We believe it is imperative to support in whatever way we can – with an online auction, a solidarity brew, and a livestreamed fundraiser. Rich and Mitch drink Dogfish Head's 120 Minute IPA 2017 and World Wide Stout 2018. These two beers are put together in a glass as one would create a black and tan drink. This really was an aptly named concoction due to the insane ABV and flavors that are mixed together. Archive Episode: This was recorded sometime in 2021. We had a lot of beers that needed some things said, so we ran the gamut and this was on of the pairings. One of the more fun beers to cover at any point in time. Beers Consumed: (2021) 2017 Dogfish Heads 120 Minute IPA 2018 World Wide Stout…

The Beerded Brotha and The Foamy Heads are back for part 2 of cigar smoking and beer drinking. Sit back and relax as we pick up where we left off on episode 1. https://www.thebeerdedbrotha.com/
2 podcasts collide as the Foamy Heads meet up with The Beerded Brotha at Smokers Abbey. In the first of this 2 part episode, the homies run the gambit of craft beer on the table before them, discussing various brews. https://www.thebeerdedbrotha.com/
We RETURN AGAIN with Ale Sharpton’s craft beer selects from ATL. We missed a few from the batch he sent us back home with. We start this drinking session with BOLD MONK Brewing and we dive into a craft cocktail from Drift. Drift is SUPER suprising and we hope to see them in Nashville.
We are back on the mics with Ale Sharpton’s craft beer selects from ATL. Again, he is a world-renowned beer authority. We drink the beer blessings he sent us home with. We start this drinking session with his New Belgium collab: piano keys Imp. Stout. This hits all the high notes.
Finally, we found a place to worship ourselves. Sabbath Brewing exists in East Atlanta Village. After seeing the brewery name listed on Google for more than two years, we finally get to walk through their doors and taste some brews. Upon our arrival, the stage is being prepared and their beer is flowing like the endless beer from Heiðrún in Valhalla. There’s a special Saison on tap that’s been brewed with Kelly’s Death Pickles. Deadly peppers in a Saison? Why not!? The taps are repurposed pipes from an old church organ. Murals of madness are above the casks. The walk-in is slapped to hell with all sorts of local and out-of-town slaps. Candles have melted and lay dormant where they lay. Aesthetics are super on point here. The bar’s stage is about to be set for the live shows and people are about ready to start the summoning. Hell yes, let’s rock.…
There are times in life when you get an opportunity to talk to one of the greats. In this episode of The Foamy Heads, Mitch and Rich visit Inner Voice Brewing and sit down with the Real Ale Sharpton, one of Atlanta's biggest beer influencers. We discuss the ATL craft beer scene, diversity and inclusion, Ale's Piano Keys collaboration with New Belgium Brewing, and much more!…
During our visit to the beautiful Monday Night Preservation Society in Nashville, TN, Peter Kiley invited us to the mothership- a super open space with tables and outdoor seating based in the heart of downtown Atlanta, GA. Peter and the staff at Monday Night Brewing were very generous and hospitable in our visit as we tasted through their beers. So many good choices and every single beer this run were brewed with great care for the consumer. We were ecstatic to have Imaginary Grace again as well. We get new offerings that just so happened to release the same day we recorded as well as local-only selections on tap. Peter is extremely knowledgeable and educated us on all sorts of aspects about Monday Night Brewing beers and the insane amount of effort Monday Night Brewing crews put into each production. Join Mitch and Rich as we taste our way thru the ATL beer scene at Monday Night Brewing!…
We talk to the one and only Aaron Hortman from the Main Street Liquor Store! We had a helluva time. We usually set up shop somewhere close to folks' Homebase of operations, but I lost my table and Aaron knew the folks at Smoker's Abbey that were more than happy to oblige us for a space to use! HUGE shoutout to Smoker's Abbey and the Nashville crew. They are THE BEST place for cigars, pipe tobacco, and draft beer pours (always a slamming list to choose from). Good folks in this city. Back to the episode details: We drank mostly Aaron's beer. We offered up one of our 2020 Dark Lords while she shared a bodacious slew of craft beer and gueuze styles. I brought two personally highly anticipated IPAs (Run The Jewels collab and some sort of Street Shark can art IPA) but they were flat and dead. I suck. No honorable mention since I messed that gamut up. Listen and drink along with us as we crush these beers and talk craft beer and the cigars that accompanied our drinks!…
We were fortunate enough to visit a new brewery in Gallatin, TN, and to see behind the scenes where the magic happens! Josiah Trandahl is a wonderful host and is extremely welcoming to everyone. We get a full flight of every beer offering and we get to try the seltzer that he brews as well. (Psst, it's amazing!) The whole front of the house has 80s memorabilia from the bar and all the way to the walls. Posters that were rare to see in the US are framed and viewable in the main dining area. Vinyl/VHS/Magazine/Comics and more 80s misc create the surface of what you drink over at the bar. You can spend a good amount of time taking it all in. The building has a super rad and colorful painted wall that you CAN'T-MISS when you drive by it. Local artists have claimed two walls, one exterior and one interior to amplify the 80s era in both graphic and movie themes. The beer selections are a little limited at the moment as he expands his taps and continues brewing. However, for every single beer we had, we wanted to get an additional pour. (Spoiler, we did just that after recording and ordered some food as well.) The line-up is incredible with his own couple of twists for the styles. The names for the beers are great to read too. You know there's some inspiration behind every release and if I were you, I'd be on the lookout for every drop. Big Trouble Brewing - A great space to hang with your family and order some food and drinks at. The atmosphere is bright, inviting, and eclectic for all this 80s. Check them out in Gallatin, TN since they are now open!…

We visit Chad Mueller and drink several fresh selections from the taps at TennFold! Time got away from us thanks to being surrounded by great brews and the amazing and great mind of Chad Mueller. We drink through a few current offerings of Saison, Helles lager, (an upcoming Marzen that's lagering), a Hazy IPA (the 808 Clap!), and finished with a share of ours from the TrimTab folks - The Language of Thunder. Which one? Listen and find out.…
Zac and Shane from the Pour Choice of Words podcast join the Foamy Heads in discussion! We drink a wide range of IPAs, Shandys, and stouts, all while discussing the craft beer community!
Michelle Edge, Regional Sales Representative for WISEACRE, joins and drinks with us as we cruise through WISEACRE's current beer offerings! Beverages we drink include Tiny Bomb, Ananda, Bow Echo, Gotta Get Up To Get Down, which are followed by several of our own offerings... a Panther Creek's Unholy Creations Brownie Espresso Cream Cheese Stout, and Russian River's Pliney the Elder! We had a BLAST drinking and talking beer while learning a little bit more about Memphis and why their lager game is on point! That new Bow Echo IPA is no joke either!…
We are stoked to be joined by Cat from the Rhinegeist Brewery! We get into the main staple IPA (TRUTH) and a couple of other offerings from Rhinegeist. We are also pleasantly surprised by a familiar collab return this year under a new guise! Will it be as good as its original form? We are cordially yours on this episode. Please join us for a drink and thanks for listening!…
Meet Kappa... The first of Living Waters Brewing Mythos 2021 club release... In this episode, Mitch and Rich break down the toasted coconut pastry stout (or is it a Russian imperial stout?) and give their thoughts. You'll want to hear what they have to say.
Delicious intent was planned. Boyyyy did it deliver. This episode we get into triple trouble with local establishments and influencers. They created an ultimate plan to dominate palates in the Nashville, TN area. Check out our reactions to the beer pairing provided by Baker and the Beerd! Beer provided by Yazoo Brewing and donuts delivered by Donut Distillery. We are definitely thankful to have been able to snag a six-pack of both the beer and the donuts for this addition to our memory lane.…
2020 is a wrap folks. We're done with this year, as we're sure you are too. Americans need a drink after all these numb nutted people in their big houses with their consistent salaries and constant benefits. It's been ... a year... and we drank it down like any other to get through it. We wrap up some thoughts while drinking a couple beverages on this episode. End of the year makes us both unfortunately busy. However! 2021 is looking hotter by a long shot. So stay tuned to us for next year's drops and noise!…
We hammer through four of the Crazy Gnome's on-tap offerings and drink an additional two bottles of more beer shared from Richard and Mitch. The host's mics failed us and we failed to bring headsets to keep track of audio fupuckery. (Thanks Big Foamy Head for that word!) Thank you to both crazy gnomes, Grayson and Bennett, for the beers and conversation!…
Byron joins us for an evening talking about Proper Sake beers and sake. Mitch geeks out a bit in and isn't as outspoken, but hopefully will sober up for the next round. Next time, we share the amounts we drank instead of fighting the full volume of beers in each bottle.

The guys talk about the effect the Coronavirus has on local breweries, as well as what they're doing to keep the beer flowing during these pandemic times.
This is a brainstorm of an episode, but not without the random disillusions that come with beer goggles. We received an additional beverage from a friend and wasn't expecting the results we had. We dabble into thoughts of starting homebrewing again and apparently Mitch really wants a pliny clone.
We had three heavy hitters from The Bruery. DJ joins us again to discuss and drink these special beers. Mitch gets wordy and less sensible thanks to the 16+ % beverages and some great discussion points come up and Richard has the answers for. We let this one run for a while since these beers are highlights to our region and we don't see very many of them.…
How much vanilla is too much vanilla? How sweet is too sweet? Let's break both of these Averys down and get to the bottom of the barrel... Ahem... Aged
This week's focus is on the local Nashville brewery Bearded Iris. We break down their long standing pale ale, their all new clear IPA, and then we move to 2 of their massive double IPAs!
The Wake Up Dead stout from last week's episode must have kept us on the dark side. This week we crack open a rare Black Tuesday imperial stout variant which has aged 10+ years! Black Tuesday comes from the folks at The Bruery located in Orange County, CA and they specialize in barrel aged and experimental ales.…
Richard was asked to send his opinions and thoughts on the Wake Up Dead Nitro by Left Hand Brewing into the digital winds by his friends at Stones River Total Beverages. We review the Nitro stout style and refocus on a favorite brewery Prairie's beverage. We drink the Deconstructed Bomb! Chili from Prairie Artisan Ales and are surprised!…
