Believing the Bizarre: Paranormal Conspiracies & Myths

The House that Belonged to Him In this episode of Believing the Bizarre, we explore two chilling listener encounters centered around haunted homes. The first story comes from a listener named Ghost in Canada, who experienced strange knocking on their window while studying late at night, followed by hearing their name called in a distorted, underwater-like voice that mimicked their mother. The second tale from an anonymous submitter (aja "Sofia," iykyk) in West Georgia involves a couple who purchased a charming 1939 farmhouse where they constantly felt watched. Their experiences escalated from feeling a weight on an air mattress during illness to lights turning on and off mysteriously, culminating in an intruder being spotted outside - potentially after the protective spirit alerted them to danger. We discuss potential explanations for both encounters, from the possibility of mimics or doppelgangers in Ghost's case to the likelihood of a benevolent protective spirit in the Georgia farmhouse. In our latest episode of Believe in the Bizarre, we dive into the fascinating alien abduction case of Betty Andreasson from 1967. Betty, a devout Christian mother of seven whose husband was hospitalized after an accident, experienced strange phenomena in her South Ashburnham, Massachusetts home when pink pulsating lights appeared outside her kitchen window. What started as flickering lights and strange silhouettes led to a blackout, with Betty's conscious memories ending there. The majority of our discussion explores the extraordinary details revealed a decade later through hypnotic regression sessions conducted in the mid-1970s, where Betty recalled encounters with gray entities led by one named "Quazga" and a journey that took her far beyond her home. Throughout our conversation, we debate whether these entities had benevolent intentions or something more mysterious, comparing elements of Betty's experience to other abduction cases like the Betty and Barney Hill incident. The level of detail in Betty's regression testimony is remarkable - from physical examinations aboard a craft to visits to strange environments with unique creatures. 100% credit goes to the book: The Andreasson Affair: The Documented Investigation of a Woman's Abduction Aboard a Ufo. You can pick up a copy here . We also have a shout out in this episode for Monsters Among Us. The Haunted Lizzie Borden House This week, we dive into the infamous Lizzie Borden case and the alleged hauntings that followed. We explore the brutal 1892 murders of Andrew and Abby Borden in Fall River, Massachusetts, examining the tensions within the household—from Lizzie's resentment toward her stepmother to Andrew's frugal lifestyle despite his wealth. We discuss the crime scene details, potential suspects, and the interesting fact that despite the gruesome nature of the ax murders, Lizzie was acquitted without authorities even checking her for blood evidence. We also explore the paranormal activity reported at the Lizzie Borden house, which now serves as a museum and bed & breakfast for brave visitors. Guests have reported seeing an older woman making beds, hearing crying through the walls, witnessing shadow figures on the stairs, and experiencing other unsettling phenomena. We share several firsthand accounts from people who stayed overnight, including "ghost moms" who set up paranormal equipment and experienced unusual activity in the attic room. The Deceitful Curandera This week, we explore three chilling listener submissions. First, Ashley shares her experience with a shadow figure that appeared in her college basement in Michigan, standing motionlessly before disappearing into a wall. It's Bizarre News time again! The segment were we discuss timely news stories that are just downright strange. This month, we discuss: - A woman in New York State discovered large, 21-inch human-like footprints in the snow on her driveway, sparking Bigfoot speculation after her dog was alarmed by something in the nearby woods. While the recorded footage has fueled discussion among enthusiasts in a region known for similar reports, skeptics suggest the tracks may simply be animal prints distorted by melting snow. - Victoria Goodwin, wife of "Ghost Adventures" star Aaron Goodwin, was arrested in Nevada for allegedly conspiring to murder her husband after authorities discovered text messages between her and a Florida inmate discussing hitman plans and $11,515 she reportedly set aside for the killing. - A perplexed mother recorded her toddler playing when she noticed an unexplained movement that appeared as if something was pulling the child's leg into the air behind her, sparking speculation about paranormal activity while others suggested optical illusions or natural causes. - A 33-year-old Canadian massage therapist who lost his sight to Stevens-Johnson syndrome is undergoing an innovative osteo-odonto keratoprosthesis procedure that involves removing one of his teeth, inserting an optical lens, placing it in his cheek to develop tissue, and then implanting it into his eye to potentially restore his vision. Believing the Bizarre: Paranormal Conspiracies & Myths

This week, we dive into three chilling listener-submitted ghost stories. First, we explore an anonymous account from a Nigerian boarding school where students experienced mysterious disturbances - from violently shaking beds to objects moving on their own - that multiple witnesses confirmed. Next, we discuss Thomas's experiences in his inherited trailer home, where he encountered everything from ghostly visitors and flying clothes to a menacing shadow figure that created an overwhelming sense of danger. The property's location on the Trail of Tears and above a well creates the perfect conditions for paranormal activity. We also share Sam's lifelong encounters with a terrifying entity known as "the smiling man" - a shadow figure that followed them across multiple states and homes over many years. What makes Sam's story particularly compelling is that both their brother and partner independently witnessed this entity, adding credibility to the account. Champ the Lake Champlain Monster This week we dive into the legend of Champ, the Lake Champlain Monster, exploring over 300 reported sightings dating back to 1609 when Samuel de Champlain claimed to witness a 20-foot serpent-like creature. We chronicle key evidence including Sandra Mansi's famous 1977 photograph, sonar readings capturing unusual shapes, and alleged echolocation recordings from cryptozoologist Katy Elizabeth. Throughout the episode, we discuss theories about whether Champ could be a prehistoric survivor like a plesiosaur or tanystropheus, citing Lake Champlain's substantial depth of 400 feet as a potential habitat. We also look at alternative explanations for the Lake Champlain cryptid, including large sturgeon (which can reach 27 feet), groups of otters swimming in formation creating a serpentine illusion, or partially submerged logs moved by underwater currents called seiches. This month, we interviewed with paranormal enthusiasts and podcasters Mr. E and Jay Clone from the "Cryptids of the Corn" podcast. We discuss their background, with Mister E having worked as a fisheries biologist and Jay Clone being a bartender, explaining how they met when Mister E asked J Clone if he believed in Bigfoot. They share personal paranormal encounters, including Jay Clone's experiences with unexplained events in his bedroom and a mysterious white creature he spotted on a country road, while Mr. E mentions Bigfoot sightings and UFO experiences. The pair discuss their approach to blending science with paranormal investigations, with Mr. E explaining that many paranormal phenomena are simply not yet understood by science, comparing it to how radiation was once considered supernatural before being scientifically explained. They also talk about their Ohio Bigfoot Jamboree event, which drew around 3,000 attendees from multiple countries in its first year, and their plans to expand it. Believing the Bizarre: Paranormal Conspiracies & Myths

2025 Plane Crash Conspiracies In this episode, we discuss a series of plane crashes that occurred in early 2025, examining potential conspiracy theories surrounding these incidents. We analyze five fatal crashes that happened within weeks of each other, including a military helicopter collision with a commercial plane in Washington DC, a medical evacuation jet crash in Philadelphia, and several other aviation incidents across the United States. Charlie presents a timeline of these events while questioning whether these crashes represent random accidents or something more orchestrated. Throughout our discussion, we explore three main conspiracy theories: that the crashes serve as a distraction from other major events, that they represent targeted silencing of specific individuals, or that they're part of a fear-mongering campaign to discourage travel. It is Extraterrestrial Encounters time! This week, we have four compelling UFO sighting accounts across North America and Egypt, where witnesses encountered unexplained aerial phenomena that defied conventional explanation. In Alberta, Gracie and her family observed a bright red unidentified object moving toward their vehicle during a stargazing trip; in Arizona, Bridget experienced missing time and strange lights surrounding her car; in Cairo, a family witnessed three flying saucers forming a triangle constellation before mysteriously vanishing; and in rural Florida, Taylor spotted an unusually bright star-like UFO that disappeared without explanation, accompanied by the distinct feeling of being watched. Each alien sighting presents compelling UFO evidence through detailed first-hand accounts, from the strange lights in the sky that prompted Gracie's family to flee, to Bridget's missing phone call and lost time, to the Egyptian family's collective silence after their alien spacecraft encounter, and finally to Taylor's bewilderment at the vanishing star-like object. Spring-Heeled Jack and the Gorbals Vampire This week, we explore two British urban legends: the Gorbals Vampire and Spring-heeled Jack. In 1954 Glasgow, hundreds of children armed with knives and homemade weapons descended on the Southern Necropolis cemetery hunting a supernatural entity with iron teeth that allegedly killed two local boys. Meanwhile, in Victorian London, Spring-heeled Jack terrorized citizens from 1837 to 1904, described as a well-dressed gentleman with glowing eyes who could make impossible leaps, breathe blue and white fire, and attack victims with metallic claws. Both cases sparked significant paranormal panic and were documented in the Victorian press. We debate whether these incidents represent historical mass hysteria or genuine supernatural encounters with entities from British folklore. In addition, we examine how Scottish urban myths, Victorian era monsters, and paranormal history might explain the phenomena, while considering how both stories reflect societal fears of their time. Or is it possible that Spring-heeled Jack might have been a demonic figure or one of the mysterious jumping entities from British supernatural folklore? Could the Gorbals incident represent children's folklore and cemetery legends manifesting during a period of societal tension? The Skunk Ape Deep in the swamps and forests of the southeastern United States lurks the legendary florida cryptid known as the Skunk Ape, a close cousin to the more famous sasquatch of the Pacific Northwest. Standing between 5 and 8 feet tall and weighing over 300 pounds, this florida bigfoot has earned its distinctive name from the powerful sulfuric odor it reportedly emits. Historical sightings of this swamp creature date back to 1818, with Native American Seminole tribes referring to it as the Esti Capcaki, or "Hairy Giant," believing it to be the mystical protector of the woods. From the mysterious Myakka skunk ape photographs of 2000 to the numerous documented encounters in the Everglades, this southern bigfoot continues to captivate researchers and witnesses alike. The everglades monster has been the subject of multiple credible sightings by law enforcement officers, fire chiefs, and everyday citizens, with reports describing a massive, hair-covered humanoid that moves with surprising agility through the dense Florida wilderness. The creature's most distinguishing characteristics, beyond its imposing size and reddish-brown fur, are its distinctive four-toed footprints and that unforgettable stench that often announces its presence before it's even seen. Historical records date back to 1818, including Native American Seminole tribes who called it "Esti Capcaki" (the Furry Tall Man) and believed it to be a mystical protector of the forests. Notable sightings have been documented by law enforcement officers, fire chiefs, and countless civilians, with significant clusters of activity in the Everglades, Ocala National Forest, and various swamplands throughout Florida. David Shealy, a prominent Skunk Ape researcher, has dedicated his life to studying the creature and operates the Skunk Ape Headquarters, housing photographs, footprint casts, and research materials. The creature is known for its distinctive characteristics, including four-toed footprints, long arms that hang past its knees, and an ability to move swiftly through dense swamp terrain despite its size. While skeptics suggest it might be misidentified black bears with mange or elaborate hoaxes, continued sightings by credible witnesses and consistent physical descriptions across decades have maintained the Skunk Ape's status as one of America's most intriguing cryptozoological mysteries.…

It's listener submission time and we have four strange stories for you this week! Nicole's Story: Greg, who died in a motorcycle accident, appeared to check on his baby son after death, and years later the child inexplicably described the exact way his father had died. Nicole also experienced a vivid vision where she found herself wearing moccasins in a snowy mountain landscape while crossing a summer street, suggesting a possible past life connection. Adrian's Parents' Story: Adrian's parents independently received accurate predictions about their future children from Ouija boards, and later shared an identical dream about meeting at a specific location. His father also survived a seemingly unsurvivable parachuting accident right when his grandmother had a premonition and called his mother to pray. Sofia's Story: Sofia experienced recurring encounters with dark figures in her hallway and other paranormal activity in her childhood home, which her mother attempted to combat by putting olive oil handprints on the walls as protection. The haunting followed her to new locations, including a black figure that waits outside her salon, which her mother (who dabbled in witchcraft while pregnant) can see. Molly's Story: Molly had an intensely vivid dream about a horrific gas chamber scenario in a concentration camp that left her with physical sensations upon waking. She also had a dream about being in a city under aerial attack two weeks before the Ukraine conflict began, and woke up with a bruise where she was struck by debris in the dream.
