Merry Christmas You Beautiful People! We start the show with Where Are You Christmas? and Bob Baker tells us it's hiding in Germany. Then it's this episodes version of A Christmas Carol, it's the 2019 version starring Guy Pearce. Some would say this is the worst version ever, but not Todd and Mary Polte, who come on the show to stick up for it. If you never seen it, you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlTNqJFYiXw&t=7467s Then Bob is back with Do You Hear What I Hear? and he's looking at the difference between Ass and Arse. Check out Bob's podcast here: https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ Then it's The Christmas Quiz, I managed 9, make sure to email me with your score. Hello you beautiful people! We start the episode with a few Guinness World Records. How heavy do you think the world's largest Christmas pudding was? or what about the most brussels sprouts eaten in a minute? You'll find out here. Do you know what a 'brolly' is? Well we know in the UK, and Bob Baker will teach you what one is in Do You Hear What I Hear. This episode's version of A Christmas Carol is from the TV series Topper from 1953. It's not that good, but it could be worse. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFkt5_jG-TY Then Bob is back with Where Are You Christmas, and this time it's in China. Check out Bob's podcast here: https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ In The Christmas Quiz I managed to score 8, let me know how you got on. Merry Christmas you beautiful people! We begin the show by looking at a Christmas Not So Classic. This one is from one of the biggest bands of all time, U2. They recorded a version of the British classic I Believe In Father Christmas, and it's okay. Here's a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qD6QSJsASVM Then Bob Baker is looking for Christmas in Where Are You Christmas, and he finds it at Mount Rushmore (with thanks to Benji Pearson). Next up it's the quiz, and we have a little contoversy about some of my pronunciations in the last episode. Halloween is on the horizon and in previous years listener Benji Pearson has dressed as ghosts from A Christmas Carol. This year he's thinking of being the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come and he asks for my advice, of which I give him very little. Then Bob is back with Do You Hear What I Hear and he's looking at two weeks, or as us Brits would say 'A fortnight'. Check out Bob's podcast here: https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ This episode's version of A Christmas Carol is an episode of the western TV show Cimarron City. It's an interesting one, You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soC3lLkqiiA Get in touch: Email: totalchristmas@gmail.com Web: totalchristmaspodcast.com Merry Christmas!…
Merry Christmas you beautiful people! It's a packed episode and we start with The Christmas Quiz. I scored 8, make sure to email me and let me know how you got on. Next up it's Where Are You Christmas and this episode Bob Baker takes us to a couple of Christmas shops in Edinburgh (pronounced Eden-burg, if you're Bob). This epsisode we have a combination of A Christmas Carol and Yule Logs. There are 3 to choose from and they're all a bit crap. This is an audio play adaptation and it's only part 1 (there are no more parts): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMJoiFiJEoc&t=25s This one is from the horendous version of A Christmas Carol by the BBC and FX: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IluciPAhTsw And this one shows 4 different versions of A Christmas Carol on a tiny screen in the corner of the picture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zIytOURrx0&t=2527s Then it's What The Dickens! and I look at 3 interesting aspects of A Christmas Carol that you may not have noticed before. Oy! it's Do You Hear What I Hear? and Bob looks at the word 'Oy', which I thought was universal, but turns out I was wrong. Then it's one of my Christmas memories and I reminisce about my experiences going caroling singing as a teenager. Merry Christmas you beautiful people! We start the show with this episode's version of A Christmas Carol. It's an episode of the Disney cartoon series 101 Dalmatians called A Christmas Cruella. If you want, you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njxjk4CosPM&t=1290s Then Bob Baker looks at what us Brits mean by a 'flannel' in Do You Hear What I Hear. After that it's The Christmas Quiz. I only scored 6 this week, let me know if you managed any better Next up Bob is back with Where Are You Christmas, and it turns out it's hiding in Canada. Check out Bob's podcast here: https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ In the quiz in the last episode we had a question about how many doors there are in an advent calendar and Scott Newman, our US correspondent, has done a bit of research on the subject. I have as well, and we look at a few Guinness World Records involving advent calendars. This episode's recommendation is Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer: Gone Fishing. It's a lovely show, and you don't have to be interested in fishing to enjoy it. They've also got some nice Christmas specials (that weren't filmed anywhere near Christmas). It's on the BBC iplayer, but it's on other streaming sites as well, so check it out. Get in touch: Email: totalchristmas@gmail.com Web: totalchristmaspodcast.com Merry Christmas!…

Hello you beautiful people! We start the show with a Christmas Not So Classic. The Pet Shop Boys were massive in the 80s and still going strong in the 90s. In 1995 they recorded a Christmas song just for their fanclub members. It's call It Doesn't Often Snow At Christmas, and it's okay I suppose. Have a listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBj8VehCeLE Then it's Where Are You Christmas? and Bob Baker tells us about a couple of places in Japan that celebrate Christmas all year long. Next up Bob Baker has a look at what us Brits call 'taps' and those Yanks call 'faucets' in Do You Hear What I Hear. After the joke it's this episodes version of A Christmas Carol. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTRm5gX6CXs Then Bob is back with Where Are You Christmas? and he looks at some places here in the UK that (to my shame) I wasn't aware of. Then Bob Baker, our self-appointed podcast barman, talks about the word Blimey, a classic British term that isn't that popular overseas. One suggestion is to try to break a world record and we take a look at some Christmas records that could be achievable. Then Bob is back with Where Are You Christmas? and it turns out Christmas is in Bracebridge, Ontario in Canada. A delightful place that has been used as a filming location for a couple of Christmas films. Check out Bob's podcast here: https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ This episode's version of A Christmas Carol is Scrooge: A Christmas Carol Podcast, from Hope Media. Here's a link: https://adventcalendar.house/episodes/blackadders-christmas-carol Then Bob Baker is back with Spread a Smile of Joy. The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear, so why not go carol singing this year and spread some joy around your neighbourhood. Check out Bob's podcast here: https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ Then Jeanie Mulligan is back to have another go at The Quiz. See if you can beat her score (you shouldn't find it too hard). Merry Christmas! It's a packed show, and we start off with a not particularly good version of A Christmas Carol from 2001. It's animated and has the voices of Kate Winslet, Simon Callow and Nic Cage as Jacon Marley. You can watch here, or not, it's your life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptEiotEFUdk&t=4116s Next up is A Story of Shame from our listener Nettie Tebeau. Then it's our yearly chat with Scott Newman of Tinsel Tunes. This time we look at the King of Christmas (at least in the UK), Cliff Richard. He's been part of the Christmas number 1 four times and he's also released a whole bunch of other Christmas songs (and 2 albums). We talk about 4 of his songs and you can check them out here: Cliff Richard & The Shadows - I Love You https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNRDiVcTrPI Saviours Day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTI8CWSiZ40 Whenever God Shines His Light https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--XE4CYGRSY 21st Century Christmas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2ZpCKiA7W8 Check out Scott's Podcasts. This show has it all. Well, it has some stuff. First up it's The Quiz, see if you can beat my score of 8. Then Bob Baker explains the difference between University and College in Do You Hear What I Hear. We've been sent another Worst Present Ever from Rob Taylor, and this one is a Festive Bounty. After that, listener Benjamin Hall has sent us a definitive top 5 of the all time greatest US Christmas adverts. If you disagree you're welcome to send me your top 5. This episode we have another giveaway. If you'd like to win a copy of The Unofficial Elf Cookbook by Bryton Taylor, all you have to do is email me 'Let's 'ave it', and it could be yours. Check out the book here: https://www.simonandschuster.co.uk/books/The-Unofficial-Elf-Cookbook Then, thanks to a question in The Quiz, we look at who Kerstman is. It's an interesting one. It seems that in The Quiz last episode, Martin Goodman was the only listener who knew Showaddywaddy sung Hey Mr Christmas, well this episode we have a listen to it. Check out the song here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWRbdrTWISk Then Bob Baker is back with Spread a Smile of Joy, and he looks at giving thanks as a way to spread the love. Check out Bob's pod, Festive Foreign Film Fans, it's great: https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ This episode's version of A Christmas Carol is a Rude Retelling by Brian Harvey of East 17 fame. It's not for the sensitive, but it's a bit of fun if you don't mind swearing. Welcome to the show! We start off with another tradition from Cornwall here in the UK. It's called the Cornish Kissing Bunch and it's a Christmas wreath but with a twist. Then Bob Baker, our resident bar tender, looks at the British word 'Git' in Do You Hear What I Hear. This episode's version of A Christmas Carol is A Christmas Karen from 2022. It's a modern twist on the classic tale and it ain't that good. You can watch it for free if you have Amazon Prime, and here's a bit more info: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14219486/ Remember last episode we talked about Seth's Christmas Ghost Stories and I gave you the opportunity to win 3 of them. It's a packed episode filled with all sorts. We begin with a look at the Cornish custom of Star Gazy Pie. It's not the most appetising pie you'll ever see, but it has a great history. Then our Podcast Barman Bob Baker takes a look at Caskets and Coffins. Next it's our yearly tradition of looking at Seth's Christmas Ghost Stories produced by Biblioasis. If you want to win the latest 3 books in the series email me with the following... "Yeah, I'll ave em". Check out the lovely little books here: https://www.biblioasis.com/product-category/fiction/seths-christmas-ghost-stories/ In last episode's quiz I had never heard of the song Christmas Through Your Eyes by Gloria Estefan, so we take a look at the song, which was a B-side to the Miami Mega Mix. Hooray for Christmas! First up we have this weeks version of A Christmas Carol. It's an episode of Popular which was a late 90s show about teenagers starring a bunch of actors in their mid to late twenties. It's awful, but in a good way. Or it's great, but in a bad way. Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gi0QMHU6jSo Then Bob Baker brings us Do You Hear What I Hear, and I never knew that across they pond they didn't call a Till a Till. Then it's The Quiz. I scored a princely 9 out of 10, let me know how you got on. After the Joke, Bob returns with Spread A Smile of Joy and he looks at getting involved in your local community. It's a great way to spread some local good cheer. Check out Bob's podcast, Festive Foreigh Film Fans here: https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ Then it's time for Christmas All Over The World, and thanks to listener Jeanie Mulligan, we look at a modern Irish tradition of The Late Late Toyshow. Hello you beautiful people. For many years I've thought Scrooge's gift to the Cratchitt family of a huge turkey was ridiculous. How on earth would they cook it in time for their Christmas dinner? Well greater minds than mine have looked into it and thanks to their brains and research we look at it the feasibility of such a large turkey. Here's a link to the full article: https://infinitequestpodcast.com/extras/f/how-big-was-the-prize-turkey-in-a-christmas-carol Keeping on the subject of Turkey's, this episode's Christmas Not So Classic is Ho Ho Ho (Who'd be a Turkey at Christmas) by Sir Elton John. It's not that good, but you can check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac97CJQhx5E Then, in Do You Hear What I Hear, Bob Baker looks at the word Jelly as used to describe Santa's belly. Then it's The Quiz, I scored a respectable 8. Let me know how you got on. After the joke Bob returns with Spread A Smile of Joy and he looks at the practice of Jeep Ducking. Check out Bob's podcast, Festive Foreign Fans, here: https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ In Christmas All Over The World we look at the lovely Mexican tradition of Las Posadas, where a procession of people re-enact Joseph and Mary's attempts to find lodgings. It's been two years since we've had The Worst Christmas Present Ever segment, so I've scoured the internet and found some for you. Hello you beautiful people! It's another packed show and we start off by looking at a tradition from Yorkshire here in the UK. The Yorkshire Christmas Pie was a multiple bird roast inside a pie. Alas it's not really a thing these days, but I give you a recipe so you can go and make your own. Then Bob Baker our podcast barman looks at the word 'Torch' in Do You Hear What I Hear. Next up it's the quiz. I scored a respectable 8, see if you can do better. A couple of years ago Benji Pearson asked me to help him design his Halloween costume of Jacob Marley, well this year he's looking at being The Ghost of Christmas Present. Have a listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KO5HaSSus5I Then Bob Baker is here to look at why us Brits called Bachelor Party a Stag Do, in Do You Hear What I Hear. Then it's The Quiz, and don't panic, we're back to doing it the good old way. I scored a measily 6, but it's not an easy one. After that Bob returns with Spread A Smile of Joy, and why not literally spread a smile with a bit of humour in your daily interactions. Bob's done the research and it's pretty darn interesting. Then we take a look at Cozy Little Christmas by Katy Perry. It was a question in last week's quiz, and I thought I'd never heard of it, turns out I had and it's not as obscure as I thought. Plus the video is fun. Have a watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sg8Gk1iXEIs After that it's this episode's version of A Christmas Carol and it is not very good at all. It's called "Mrs Scrooge, A Christmas Poem" by Carol Ann Duffy, and it's a modern take on the legend telling us what happened to Scrooge's widow. I read it so you don't have to. It's not really a version of a Christmas Carol but it does feature the 3 ghosts and let me tell you in no uncertain terms it is crap. Then it's the quiz. I scored 8, let me know how you got on. Then Bob returns with Spread A Smile Of Joy and this one was suggested to us from our Scandinavian American correspondent Benji Pearson. It's a good one. After that it's Christmas All Over The World and did you know that Saint Nicholas isn't the only saint who goes around giving gifts at Christmas. In Greece they have Saint Basil. He's no Santa, but it he gets the job done. This episode's recommendation was suggested last week by Bob Baker and I had a listen and really enjoyed it. It's from Story Corps and they have lots of people sharing uplifting stories of when strangers have done nice things. I'm here, you're here, let's get started... We begin with the joke, which is a first, usually it's in the middle of the show, so don't let it disorientate you, and we follow it up with The Quiz. Then Bob is here with Do You Hear What I Hear and he's looking at why us Brits say Lift instead of Elevator (aside from the fact it saves us 3 syllables). Next up is the return of What The Dickens, and I talk about why Scrooge is called Scrooge and Marley is called Marley, and also is it possible for the streets of London to be both frosty and foggy. Then it's a look at A New York Christmas to Remember. This was a televised Christmas carol church service in which Regis Philbin read out the nativity story accompanied by a load of puppets created by Jim Henson's workshop. They're not muppets, but it's quite spellbinding. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRymdxIAWKg&t=2987s After that, Bob is back with Spread A Smile of Joy, and this time he's recommending you have a listen to The Story Corps Podcast season 8 which shares a load of stories about people doing nice deeds. Hello you beautiful people. It's a brand new year and the show is back. First up it's the quiz and it's not easy, I scored a pitiful 5 and a half, see how much better you can do. Then Bob Baker brings us Do You Hear What I Hear and he discusses the great English tradition of "whinging". This episode's version of A Christmas Carol was suggested by listener Rob Davison. It's an episode of Chucklevision called A Christmas Chuckle. It's a very loose take on the story, but it has its moments. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvF1u2fnkJ8 Next up listener Alfred Perales shares how he broke the news to his son that ther is no Santa Claus. Then Bob Baker starts his brand new segment Spread A Smile Of Joy. This is a wonderful idea and it's all about spreading goodwill to those around you. If you want to get in touch we'd love to hear from you. Email: totalchristmas@gmail.com Web: totalchristmaspodcast.com Merry Christmas.…

Hello you beautiful people. It's a jam packed episode filled with festive joy. First up it's Do You Hear What I Hear and Bob Baker talks about Father Christmas. These days it's just another name for Santa, but his origins are very different. Then it's Jack Ask and my self-appointed best friend Chris has a a question which isn't a dilemma, but I answer it anyway. We haven't had a yule log for a while but we have one now. This one is Fireplace for the Home Classic Edition on Netflix. It's an hour of a real fire, with a very exciting highlight. Well worth a look. Then it's the quiz and to help answer the questions we have the return of Steven A McKay. He's written some great Christmas short stories and he has a podcast. We also play his Christmas song. Check out his stuff here: https://stevenamckay.com/ Then it's another Jack Ask. This one comes from Adam Parker from the Merry Britsmas Podcast. Should he decorate his neighbours tree as a festive surprise? Check out Merry Britsmas: https://merrybritsmas.podbean.com/ Then it's some adverts for my merch. If you want a T-Shirt or similar with the show logo on it, you can buy one here: https://merrybritsmas.podbean.com/ Also why not read my book. It's only for grown-ups but it might make you laugh: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thursday-Nights-Alright-Jack-Andrews-ebook/dp/B0BLW93NTK/ref=sr_1_1?crid=14R7H09V3H2PZ&keywords=thursday+nights+alright&qid=1702727270&s=books&sprefix=thursday+nights+alright%2Cstripbooks%2C93&sr=1-1 Then we have the triumphant return of Shelli Arnold and Frank the Tank. They give us a guided tour of their wonderful Christmas village. I've posted pictures on Facebook, you really should have a gander. This episode version of A Christmas Carol is an old time radio show from 1949. It's an episode of Richard Diamond Private Detective and it's alright I suppose. Have a listen: https://www.oldtimeradiodownloads.com/crime/richard-diamond-private-detective/a-contemporary-christmas-carol-1949-12-24 Then we have another song from Adam Kennedy. This one is very funny. Check out the full album here: https://adamkennedy.bandcamp.com/album/literally-shrunk-down-and-living-in-my-christmas-village Then Bob is back with Christmas Everyday. If you want to have a listen to his show Festive Foreign Film Fans, here it is: https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ Then Ed Daly is back to tell us the story of how he found out about Santa. Check out Ed's book, it's great: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Christmas-Book-Ultimate-Favorite-Holiday/dp/B09HS14DFM This episode I'm recommending I'm Not Complaining with Robin and Juno. My two daughters, and possibly the world's youngest podcasters, host a weekly show where they talk about their lives.
