Hidden Streams, Season One, is a devotion and study of the Psalms of Lament.
For the next few weeks we will be exploring the rich laments of the prophet Jeremiah. Rich, because we can relate to the prophet's complaints, and also be encouraged that God gives us a script in His holy Word to speak to Him about the things that vex us. Chad shines a bright light on these words of Jeremiah, and meditates on God's responses. The talented Markita Knight sings "Always For Me". Jeremiah's laments have so much in common with the laments found in the Psalms. They also resonate with the complaints we may hold in our hearts from time to time. Chad guides us through this moving episode with helpful correction and much encouragement. This is what we are created for, to know God, praise Him and be with Him in His new creation forever. We are loved more than we realize, surrounded by grace, even in the midst of trials and hardships. God is with us forever. Chad unpacks this wonderful Psalm and renews us with words of truth and encouragement. Izzi Ray sings "You Are The Only One" Psalm 148 ESV Praise the Lord! The Lord made it known to me and I knew; then you showed me their deeds. But I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter. I did not know it was against me they devised schemes, saying, “Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name be remembered no more.” But, O Lord of hosts, who judges righteously, who tests the heart and the mind, let me see your vengeance upon them, for to you have I committed my cause. Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, and say, “Do not prophesy in the name of the Lord, or you will die by our hand”— therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: “Behold, I will punish them. The young men shall die by the sword, their sons and their daughters shall die by famine, and none of them shall be left. For I will bring disaster upon the men of Anathoth, the year of their punishment.” This is so beautifully explained and meditated on by Chad. Andrea Hammond sings "You Take It All". Part of the passage Chad looks at says; “I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness. I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols. Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them.” This is what our minds should dwell on. Once again we meditate on an Old Testament passage that is all about Jesus Christ. When we read " 5 The Lord God has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious; I turned not backward. 6 I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard; I hid not my face from disgrace and spitting. 7 But the Lord God helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame." We realize that Christ humbled Himself in so many ways, even giving His cheeks to His tormentors. Chad meditates on this and the meaning of "Word of the Father". Lynn sings "Step by Step". Only God sees the whole story, and the backstory from every angle, and only God is qualified to judge us. We may judge others and ourselves much too harshly, or we may not care enough to speak up when someone is in need of guidance. in Psalm 98 we see the whole earth become animated and rejoice because God is coming to judge, and He will get it right. Our hearts our prone to wander, and cling fast to earthly attachments which only distract us from the riches we already have received in Christ.
