When a young Eva Kollisch arrives as a refugee in New York in 1940, she finds a community among socialists who share her values and idealism. She soon discovers ‘the cause’ isn’t as idyllic as it seems. Little does she know this is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to activism and her determination to create radical change in ways that include belonging, love and one's full self. In addition to Eva Kollisch’s memoirs Girl in Movement (2000) and The Ground Under My Feet (2014), LBI’s collections include an oral history interview with Eva conducted in 2014 and the papers of Eva’s mother, poet Margarete Kolllisch, which document Eva’s childhood experience on the Kindertransport. Learn more at www.lbi.org/kollisch . Exile is a production of the Leo Baeck Institute , New York | Berlin and Antica Productions . It’s narrated by Mandy Patinkin. Executive Producers include Katrina Onstad, Stuart Coxe, and Bernie Blum. Senior Producer is Debbie Pacheco. Associate Producers are Hailey Choi and Emily Morantz. Research and translation by Isabella Kempf. Sound design and audio mix by Philip Wilson, with help from Cameron McIver. Theme music by Oliver Wickham. Voice acting by Natalia Bushnik. Join Avery and Jehan to talk about the one movie they both remember with striking clarity. Is it because the merboy was so handsome? Is it because it's a unique take on puberty but with more gills? Unclear. Avery would like the record to show that she knows Dave Coulier is Uncle Joey, not Uncle Jesse, she misspoke!!!…
That's right! Jehan and Avery are on assignment. This is the sort of hard-hitting investigative journalism you can and should expect from us. We weathered a storm and Yankee Stadium to bring you this review of the first (but notably, not only!) night of the Jonas Brothers five album tour.
Jehan and Avery are back... talking about another DCOM starring their fave, Brenda Song! Why did Wendy say this boy was her cousin? How did her mom get her job at the museum? They ask the big questions as they talk 2006's Wendy Wu!
As the WGA approach a strike, Avery and Jehan take a step back to 206, to another labor dispute... the one between two spoiled daughters and their father who wants them to get a summer job at his dairy factory.
Are your parents gaslighting you? If you're Kyle Johnson... they might be. What is this mystery about his family's heritage? Join Avery and Jehan as they return to talking DCOM's with another Ryan Merriman hit, 2011's The Luck of the Irish. Hold onto your lucky coins-- this one's gonna be a wild ride!…
That's right... back-to-back episodes to talk rom coms nonstop! Avery and Jehan have so much to say about romantic comedies that they... just kept going. And going! Thank you to Adam and to our listeners for sticking with us as we discuss the rom com subcategories (as decided by Avery to avoid actually making a decision).…
We love love! In a departure from our normal DCOMs, we're taking a Valentine's inspired trip over to ROM COMS. In this two part special, Jehan and Avery will (attempt to) list and debate their favorite rom coms and the moments, music, and performances around them! Disclaimer: In one episode Avery besmirches Bridesmaids because she thought I meant Bride Wars and in both episodes Jehan gets iconic quotes and lyrics completely wrong.…
After a month long break, Avery, Jehan, and Adam are back just in time for the holidays! Join us as we discuss Christmas... Again?! (2021), a recent entry into the pantheon of holiday DCOMs, in an episode that asks the important question... will it match up to the classics? Or will it just be a pale imitation featuring a lactose intolerant guncle?…
This month marks the 25th anniversary of the very first official DCOM... Under Wraps! Join Jehan and Avery on this hijink-filled mummy romp (no, not the one famously starring Rachel Weisz) as they see just what got Disney Channel Original Movies started.
Avery, Jehan, and Adam have all been having a busy September-- the only person busier? Charlie Boyle! His workload's too much! Join Avery and Jehan in becoming Women in STEM as we go back to the 90s to see Emmy Rossum in a role that predates The Day After Tomorrow!
To mark reaching a year back at it, we knew we needed a very special episode! And what's more special than returning to our favorite camp... Camp Rock! Join Avery, Jehan, and Adam in celebrating a year working together with Camp Rock 2!
Happy Pride Month! This month we're talking about the iconic movie that ignited many millennials' queer awakening...CADET KELLY! Join us as we discuss the genius that is Hilary Duff and why this movie is on the DCOM Mount Rushmore!
Are you ready to hear all about the 2007 Corbin Bleu and Keke Palmer DCOM classic? Well then... Jump In! We're here to Push It to the Limit as we talk about a DCOM with a bumpin' soundtrack that gets the crowd... jumpin'!
