Chef Shuai Wang was the runner-up on the 22nd season of Bravo’s Top Chef and is the force behind two standout restaurants in Charleston, South Carolina—Jackrabbit Filly and King BBQ—where he brings together the flavors of his childhood in Beijing and the spirit of the South in some pretty unforgettable ways. He grew up just a short walk from Tiananmen Square, in a tiny home with no electricity or running water, where his grandmother often cooked over charcoal. Later, in Queens, New York, his mom taught herself to cook—her first dishes were a little salty, but they were always made with love. And somewhere along the way, Shuai learned that cooking wasn’t just about food—it was about taking care of people. After years working in New York kitchens, he made his way to Charleston and started building something that feels entirely his own. Today, we’re talking about how all those experiences come together on the plate, the family stories behind his cooking, and what it’s been like to share that journey on national TV. Two guys are retiring. One guy got conference room cake and another guy gets a whole party. When I leave this company I want the party and there has to be 100 people there. Does it matter if 100 people show up or not? Nope. It's about setting a goal that pushes me to keep doing what I care about - being a great person that my coworkers love. snowball.nyc…
Sometimes you're not mad, sometimes you're just hungry.
I share a story today about how (waaay) back in the day when I started working in Corporate America I overheard a conversation between two guys mad at young punks (aka me) coming in and getting high salaries and decent jobs. Dude needed to take control of his life instead of letting it pass him by. This is a follow up to the a podcast I did about a week ago titled: "The Problems We Choose." If you haven't already, take a listen to that one. I describe a situation at the laundromat where this lady was super upset at another person even though the problems she was experiencing were all her fault. After I recorded the original podcast, I ran into a similar situation, this time involving me. I thought it was interesting since I just recored the Problems We Choose podcast, and here I am experiencing the exact thing I was talking about. So, I decided to do a follow up. Quick podcast today- here Cole tells another basketball story and how 3 simple words had a big impact.
On this episode, Cole: Talks a big game about his basketball skills (he really isn't that good) Tells a story (ie complains about) how a ref was never giving him any fouls Gets scared off by a try-hard dude who got ejected from a recreational basketball league Realized he was acting like chump with all that complaining Decided to take care of what he can control and forget the rest Still swears his basketball game is awesome Dealing with a troubling situation? Outside factors messing with ya? Focus on what you can control and the game will take care of itself. snowball.nyc…
Often in life we choose problems without really knowing. We get stuck in situations that are frustrating, problematic, or simply just not ideal. Sometimes we think this is how it is and the way it is. In reality we choose a lot of situations we put ourselves in. In this episode I talk about how a recent experience at the laundromat as an example of how we choose problems. I talk about what you can do and how you can frame experiences for a better outcome.…

Working a 9-5 while pushing on my side business means I have to be super efficient at my day job to avoid the 40 hour week turning into a 60 hour work week. Here’s several tips I use to be super efficient so I can free up extra time to crush it on my side business.
Ever have a whole day start out completely free of meetings and looking like you're going to be super productive only to have time-snatchers send calendar invites to steal your time with pointless meeting? Yup me too...I talk about a strategy you can use to protect your time.
I didn't want to work out, I wanted to eat pizza and drink beer...but I kept pressing play. Keep showing up and it'll pay off in the end.
