"...when We bring from every Ummah a witness, and We (hen) bring you ﷺ as a witness against these?" (Surah 4: 41) "Verily, I ﷺ am a "harbinger" for you and (also) a "witness over you (Bukhari). "Harbinger'" means that he ﷺ has gone before us in order to look after our best interests and prepare for what we need (ie when we eventually join him ﷺ). Al-Mugheera Ibn Shu’ba رضي الله عنه (S20) 🐑 🐑 🐑 The Messenger ﷺ told Uthman Ibn Abu Al-Aas رضي الله عنه: “When leading the people in prayer, use the weakest as your guide, and only appoint a muedhin who calls to prayer at no cost” (I.e for Allah’s (swt) sake). Once Uthmaan Ibn Abu Al-Aas رضي الله عنه noticed an impeding feeling whilst leading the prayer. He went to The Messenger ﷺ and told him of this. The Messenger ﷺ placed his hand on Uthmaan’s رضي الله عنه chest and put some spittle into his mouth, he ﷺ said: “Get out, O enemy of Islam” this was done thrice. Thus, the shaytaan left uthmaan’s رضي الله عنه body and he رضي الله عنه said he never felt it again. This is called a ‘Partial possession’, it is the weakest form of possession. There is also a ‘half-possession’ where one is in a normal state, but sometimes slips into a state. A child had this at the time of our Messenger ﷺ and he ﷺ treated him also. The worst state of possession is the ‘complete possession’ the person is in a complete state, where the Shayateen takes control and the person loses his senses. A person also had this at the time our Messenger ﷺ, he ﷺ turned him around and struck his back whilst commanding the shaytaan to leave. The persons eyes returned to normal and the people said he was now the best amongst his people. A fee can be taken for performing Ruqya, however it shouldn’t be too much as to cause strain on the family providing it. A woman offered the Messenger ﷺ three sheep but he ﷺ only took one.…

Al-Mugheera Ibn Shu’ba رضي الله عنه (S19) The Thaqeef began negotiating about their Idol, Arrabbah. They asked The Messenger ﷺ if they could keep it for 3 years, The Messenger ﷺ said no. 2 years, 1 year, 1 month? All these were declined. They said we cannot destroy it ourselves, so The Messenger ﷺ said someone will be sent to deal with it. The Thaqeef delegation asked if they could go back to their people first, as to inform them of the situation. When they returned to their people, they put on an act, claiming: “This man [i.e ﷺ] is the most harsh, and he rules by the sword! He has prohibited Khamr, Zina and Riba and our idol!” The Thaqeef people were completely against this, and said to prepare for war. Some time passed and they calmed down, they then said: “Accept whatever he ﷺ says, we will follow him”. The delegation then dropped their act and said: “We have already done so. He ﷺ is not harsh nor does he lead by the sword. He is the softest and humblest of creation. We said the contrary first to rid you of your pride”. The entire tribe (رضي الله عنهم) then embraced Islam. The youngest among the delegation, Uthman Ibn Abu Al-Aas رضي الله عنه was made the Ameer of his people. Why? - For Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه said: “He is the one most eager to learn the religion and the Qur’an”. He spent a few days with The Messenger ﷺ and was learning the religion. Thus, wisdom is not linked to age nor experience, rather it is from Allah SWT.…

Al-Mugheera Ibn Shu’ba رضي الله عنه (S18) The Thaqeef began negotiations with our Messenger ﷺ. They asked if they could be excused from Fardh prayers, as they found it demeaning. Our Messenger ﷺ replied: “There is no goodness in Islam without Salah”. Our Messenger ﷺ: “Embrace Islam, even if you have doubts”. A common misconception is that one must be perfect before embracing Islam. This is opposite to the truth. The Thaqeef asked if they could be excused from Zakat and Jihad, which The Messenger ﷺ said is fine. They requested to be able to still do Zina, Riba and Khamar. Our Messenger ﷺ recited the respective verses prohibiting these things. The delegation were worried that their people back in Ta’if could never handle these conditions. A wise man amongst them said: “Men with him [i.e with The Messenger ﷺ] used to do all these things, now they have quit, so can we”. The only completely non-negotiable thing is Shirk.…

Hafsah bint Umar رضي الله عنهم (S17) Hukaym Ibn Jabalah - one of the chiefs of the khawarij. He initiated a fight against our mother Aisha رضي الله عنها. Our mother instructed her forces not to fight, and to only defend themselves. Aisha رضي الله عنها had rallied an army - it was fit for her to lead as she was the most knowledgeable of the Messenger’s ﷺ wives. These rebels tried assassinating Aisha (رضي الله عنها) - they were caught outside her door and executed. Talha and Zubayr رضي الله عنهم made the dua: “O Allah (swt), destroy those who killed Uthmaan (رضي الله عنه)”. A battle took place between our mother Aisha’s رضي الله عنها forces and the rebels who rallied an army. They were all wiped out, except one. This silences those who claim nothing good came out of Aisha’s رضي الله عنها stance. Shortly after this battle, the battle of the camel took place. Shayateens on both sides instigated it - ultimately Talha and Zubayr رضي الله عنهم were martyred. Aisha رضي الله عنها thought due to her status and rights over the believers, that her stance would not end in violence. Aisha رضي الله عنها later grieved over this endeavour. Both sides of this story were in the right - the companions (رضي الله عنهم) were all right in their respective positions. These rebels had the audacity to attack their mother… Aisha رضي الله عنها left Madinah to help ease the situation - she called for her brother, Muhammad رضي الله عنه to come with her, but he refused. Aisha رضي الله عنها said: “If the entire Earth was filled with these rebels, Uthmaan’s رضي الله عنه finger would be greater!”. Hafsah bint Umar رضي الله عنهم (S13) Umar رضي الله عنه saw some companions wearing white Khurasan cloth after conquering the Persians. He did not speak to them. They were confused. Abdullah Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهم elucidated: “He did so, as you wore clothing that the Messenger ﷺ nor Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه ever wore”. The companions رضي الله عنهم then changed their garments, and Umar رضي الله عنه greeted each and everyone indivually. When the spoils of war were brought to Umar, he noticed a sweet dish and took a bit. He (رضي الله عنه) said: “For this, sons will kill fathers, and brothers will kill brothers”. He then distributed it to the children of companions who were martyred in the lifetime of our Messenger ﷺ. Hafsah bint Umar رضي الله عنهم (S11) In the case of a revocable divorce; only the husband can take back the woman during the iddah (Surah 2:228) However, after the iddah, if the husband wants the woman back, he must go through the entire marriage procedure again - I.e Nikkah, Mahr etc. Witness are needed when calling for a divorce or when calling the woman back - not having any witnesses means you have left the sunnah, however the divorce is still valid. The sunnah time to call for divorce should be when the woman is not menstruating, and when the man has not been intimate with her - a mercy from Allah (s.w.t) - so as to not be rash and act on emotion. Just as our Messenger’s ﷺ love increased for Abdullah Ibn Um Mukhtoom رضي الله عنه after the Surah Abasa situation, his ﷺ love increased for Hafsah رضي الله عنها when he took her back after divorcing her. She along with Aisha رضي الله عنهم were the ones to look after our Messenger ﷺ when he was ill at the end of his life. Although Aisha and Hafsah رضي الله عنهم were young when the greatest of creation ﷺ left this world - Allah (s.w.t) still gave them the status of being mothers… of the believers! Although they had no biological children, they have us - billions in number.…

Hafsah bint Umar رضي الله عنهم (S10) Surah [66:10] was a reminder to our mothers (a.s) that they’ve been given tremendous honour, promised paradise, and that they’ve should be extra cautious when dealing with the Messenger ﷺ from here on. Our Messenger ﷺ: “I was preferred over Adam (a.s) with 2 gifts. Firstly, his wife (رضي الله عنها) made him go into transgression, but my wives رضي الله عنهم pushed me to obedience. His Kareen was a disbeliever, mine is Muslim”. What fruit came out of this whole incident? Allah (SWT) Himself praised Hafsah’s رضي الله عنها worship! Thus, it can be said that Allah SWT came to the aid of Hafsah رضي الله عنها. When the Messenger ﷺ took back Hafsah رضي الله عنها, Umar رضي الله عنه said to her: “If the Messenger ﷺ divorces you again, I’ll never speak to you again - so take heed”. Hafsah, and all our mothers (رضي الله عنهم) thus never troubled the Messenger ﷺ again, not even the slightest inconvenience.…

Hafsah bint Umar رضي الله عنهم (S9) Allah ﷻ refers to Abu Bakr and Umar رضي الله عنهم as the ‘righteous believers’ in Surah [66:4] Surah [66:5] mentions that should our Messenger ﷺ divorce, Allah ﷻ will replace them with better women - the verse mentions ‘virgin and non virgin’ [women] - the scholars mention this refers to Maryam (رضي الله عنها) and Aasiyah (رضي الله عنها). Our Messenger ﷺ will be married to Maryam, Aasiyah and Kulthoom (Sister of Musa (a.s)) رضي الله عنهم in Jannah. The Rawafid use the egregious logic that Surah 66:10 mentions the disbelieving wives of Nuh and Lut (a.s) - and that it applies to Aisha and Hafsah (رضي الله عنهم) Our Messenger ﷺ said to Aisha رضي الله عنها: “You will be my wife in this life, and the next”. Abdullah Ibn Abaas (رضي الله عنهم) said to Aisha رضي الله عنها when she was ill: “Do not worry, you will shortly join the messenger ﷺ and Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه”. The wives of Nuh and Lut (a.s) betrayed them in terms of deen. No wife of any Prophet (a.s) ever committed adultery.…

Hafsah bint Umar رضي الله عنهم (S8) A fourth view is that the secret our Messenger ﷺ told Hafsah رضي الله عنها was that her father would be the successor of Abu Bakr رضي الله عنهم - however this view is weaker. A brief commentary on Surah 66. Verse [1] was revealed when our Messenger ﷺ prohibited for himself honey and approaching Maria رضي الله عنها. [2] was revealed, referencing another verse: Surah [2:224], also referencing Surah [5:89] - where it mentions to make up for a broken oath, one can feed 10 poor people, or clothe them, or free a bonds person, or fast for 3 days. Hasan al-Basri (r.h) stated that our Messenger ﷺ did not have to make up for his oath, as he ﷺ is already forgiven, as mentioned in surah 48:2. Another opinion is that our messenger ﷺ made up for his oath by freeing a slave. Surah Tahreem (66) silences the Quranists - Hadiths are also revelation.…

Hafsah bint Umar رضي الله عنهم (S7) A slave woman performed witchcraft on Hafsah رضي الله عنها, and our mother ordered her to be dealt with by the authorities. Umar رضي الله عنه: “The punishment for witchcraft is the sword”. Surah [66:3-4]: “Remember when the Prophet confided in his wife a statement and she told it to another…” An incident occurred where our Messenger ﷺ was given honey by one of his wives - and some of his other wives got possessive over this. There is a difference in opinion regarding which wives were involved, and who gave the honey. There is 3 views regarding which wives were being mentioned in this verse, and what our Messenger ﷺ prohibited for himself. 1) The wives were Aisha and Hafsah رضي الله عنهم - what the Messenger ﷺ prohibited was honey. It occurred in Zainab’s Bint Jahsh رضي الله عنها house. 2) the wives were 3; Safiyah, Sawda and Aisha رضي الله عنهم And the incident occurred in Hafsah’s رضي الله عنها house. 3) The wives were 2: Aisha and Hafsah رضي الله عنهم. What our Messenger ﷺ prohibited for himself was approaching Maria رضي الله عنها - this was done as once our Messenger ﷺ was being intimate with Maria in Hafsah's dwelling, causing Hafsah to grieve.…

Al-Mugheera Ibn Shu’ba رضي الله عنه (S17) A delegation of more than 10 nobles from the Thaqeef set off to see The Messenger ﷺ - this was some time after the martyrdom of Urwah Ibn Masood رضي الله عنه. They was split it into 2 sub-tribes: The Ahlafites, who were hosted by Mugheera رضي الله عنه, and the Malikites, who were hosted by The Messenger ﷺ himself. Our Messenger ﷺ would visit them everyday for long periods of time after Isha. He would mention how the Quraysh treated him. One day The Messenger ﷺ was late to these sessions - when asked why, he ﷺ replied it was due to a portion of the Qur’an that needed be recited. Our Messenger ﷺ would split the Quran into 7 portions and read it within a week.…

Al-Mugheera Ibn Shu’ba رضي الله عنه (S16) A brief biography on the great uncle of Mugheera رضي الله عنه: Urwah Ibn Masood رضي الله عنه. Urwah رضي الله عنه was related to the Quraysh through his mother, through the lineage of Abd Manaf. He رضي الله عنه was related to the Thaqeef through his father. Urwah رضي الله عنه was also related to the Quraysh through marriage ties: He married Abu Sufyan’s daughter, Maymoonah رضي الله عنهم - thus making him the son in law of Abu Sufyan and brother in law of Muawiya رضي الله عنهم. Urwah رضي الله عنه had a son named Da’ood رضي الله عنه, who went to become a great scholar and politician. Our beloved Messenger ﷺ said: “I saw Musa (a.s) and he resembled men from the Shanu'ah tribe. I saw Eesa (a.s) and he resembled Urwah Ibn Masood رضي الله عنه. I saw Ibraaheem (a.s), the person he resembled the most was your companion [i.e The Messenger ﷺ himself]”.…

Al-Mugheera Ibn Shu’ba رضي الله عنه (S15) The martyr of Surah Yaseen: 3 messengers were sent to the city of Antioch, located in modern day southwest Turkey. The 3 messengers were either companions رضي الله عنهم of Eesa (a.s), or they were prophets (a.s) themselves. The king of Antioch rejected them all. When they first arrived to the city, they were greeted by Habib Ibn Ismaaeel an-Najar رضي الله عنه, who is the martyr of Surah Yaseen. He believed in our Messenger ﷺ six hundred years before he, ﷺ, arrived! Habib رضي الله عنه embraced Islam through their hands, and when the people rejected the messengers he stood up for them - ultimately leading to his martyrdom. He was trampled until his intestines poured out of him. Thus, this was the martyr that Urwah Ibn Masood رضي الله عنه was likened to. An honour for both blessed souls - separated by 6 centuries yet united by faith and courage.…

Al-Mugheera Ibn Shu’ba رضي الله عنه (S14) The Great Uncle, Urwah رضي الله عنه Al-Mugheera’s great uncle, Urwah Ibn Masood (رضي الله عنهم) embraced Islam in 9 A.H, after the siege of Ta’if and before The Messenger ﷺ returned to Madinah. Mugheera رضي الله عنه was overjoyed, and hosted his uncle - Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه also wanted to host him. After a period of time, Urwah رضي الله عنه asked The Messenger ﷺ if he could return back to his people, to which The Messenger ﷺ didn’t approve of: “I fear they will kill you” - The Messenger ﷺ experienced this treatment himself with the Quraysh. Ultimately Urwah رضي الله عنه returned. He was loved by his people, more beloved to them than their own children. When his people discovered his faith, they cursed and beat him. Later on, Urwah had the honour of giving the first Azhan ever in Ta’if! When Urwah رضي الله عنه stood on his balcony, the people had enough and rained arrows on him - he was struck in an artery which lead to his martyrdom. He رضي الله عنه instructed his family to bury him with the martyrs of the siege of Ta’if. Such was Urwah’s رضي الله عنه honour, having only just embraced Islam in 9 A.H, he achieved martyrdom! He was likened to the man who was also martyred in Surah Yaseen [36:19]. His immediate family (رضي الله عنهم) left for Madinah upon his martyrdom - he left behind a widow, Maymoonah رضي الله عنها who al-Mugheera رضي الله عنه married. He had a child and named him ‘Urwah’ to honour his great uncle.…

al-Mugheera Ibn Shu’ba رضي الله عنه (S13) al-Mugheera رضي الله عنه narrates: “The Messenger ﷺ performed wudhu and wiped over his Jawrabayn and his sandles”. This Hadith is the only ‘Sahih’ report regarding the wiping over normal socks. However, the shuyukh, such as Imam Ahmed, Sufyan at-Thawri (r.h) have stated this Hadith is infact weak. This is due to 2 narrators in the Hadith chain who used the word ‘Jawrabayn’ I.e normal socks, but the Hadith mentions ‘Huff’ I.e leather socks. Thus it is agreed that one can only wipe over leather socks, and not normal socks as we see today. Hasan al-Basri (r.h): “70 companions رضي الله عنهم told me that The Messenger ﷺ wiped over leather socks”. One cannot wipe over leather socks if a bath is needed - wiping can only be done for wudhu. Mugheera رضي الله عنه elucidated that it is sunnah to wipe over the right foot with the right hand, and wipe over the left foot with the left hand. The Messenger ﷺ recieved leather socks [Huff] as a gift from Negus (r.h).…

Since khuff is translated as "leather socks" these days, people then confuse them with today's regular socks and, therefore, consider it permissible to wipe over them as well- (however) it is very clear from studying the Ahaadeeth that khuff were not socks, but rather shoe (i.e footwear used to walk with).…
