Threshold is a Peabody Award-winning documentary podcast about our place in the natural world. Each season, we take listeners on a journey into the heart of a complex environmental story, asking how we got here and where we might be headed. In our latest season, Hark, we hand the mic over to our planet-mates and investigate what it means to truly listen to nonhuman voices—and the cost if we don't. With mounting social and ecological crises, what happens when we tune into the life all around us? Threshold is nonprofit, listener-supported, and independently produced.

In this FuelRadio episode, host Rod Janz reconnects with his friend Terry Barkman, who is writing a book on leadership and team building. Terry discusses his inspiration, drawn from years of working on successful teams and coaching through sailing. He emphasizes that effective leadership can come from a place of flow and ease, not just hard work, and highlights the need for companies to invest in team-building, communication, and attitude. Terry also shares his experiences in coaching and how he approaches inner work using techniques like Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help individuals recognize their inner protectors. His approach to leadership and teamwork is shaped by his sailing background, where he uses sailing as a metaphor for balancing attitude, communication, and teamwork—the three pillars he believes drive successful teams. The conversation explores the importance of self-care, the limitations of the industrial-age mindset on productivity, and the value of innovation over traditional hard work. Terry also delves into how his improv training complements his public speaking, keeping him agile and present in each moment.…

The prayer of imagination with the story Zacchaeus with Esther Hizsa. Esther says the exercise is not about studying the story. It’s about putting ourselves in the story, letting it unfold, and seeing what happens. Esther reads the story and then invites us to imagine ourselves in the story. What do we see? What do we hear? What is it like to be noticed and spoken to by Jesus?…

Deb Arndt offers the following exercise… Start with prayer and breath and become centered in your own body. Become attentive to what you are hearing in the soundscape around you. Give yourself over to the sound that is coming to you right then. What surfaces? Is there something there to pay attention to? In Deb‘s case, it was a sound that annoyed her Remain there. Make room. Don’t force a connection or an application. What surfaces that might need some attention? Choose how you want to end it - read something, be grateful. Play with the exercise above. Let it morph into your own experience.…

A meditation by Justin McRoberts. Justin encourages us to pay attention to the names and faces that come to mind as he reads the following... May I offer kindness and safety in ways that they weren't offered to me. There is no justice in denying others things I was denied. As the day progresses, ask Spirit, why that person came to mind? My guest today on the Hints of Gladness Podcast is Justin McRoberts. Justin is an author, has written five books, and has another one in the works as we'll learn about in our conversation today. Justin's most recent book is entitled, "It is What You Make of It: Creating Something Great from What You've Been Given." Justin is also a coach and a speaker. His bio says that he provides on his website says, "I create to provide language for the process of faith and life. What I create is to help you live generously as well as help you to faithfully produce good work in the world. For that reason, I really like teaching, storytelling, and songwriting, which I’ve done for nearly twenty years. I’ve written books, recorded albums and also curate and host The @Sea Podcast. Whether I’m teaching, sharing songs and stories, leading a workshop on the creative process or inviting folks to engage in the fight against global poverty, I value every opportunity to encourage, challenge and inspire." One of the things that led me to talk to Justin is that two of his books are. Prayer related. And one specifically is entitled "Prayer" that he wrote with his friend Scott Erickson.
