Yanti Amos joins Yuliana today to share her story of how she navigated the events that redirected her life. An experienced international lawyer, Yanti was propelled by a series of events to leave her law career behind and venture to New York City where she founded Earth YogaNYC, which she and her husband, Richard, then sold in 2019. Among her many other accomplishments, Yanti is also a polo player, karate black belt, an E 66th store Ambassador for Lululemon, and is currently focused on working with Richard on building his international Shotokan Karate Organization.

Yanti begins the conversation by talking about the events that reshaped her life - her divorce and an accident – as well as leaving the legal profession, finding solace in yoga, and coming to understand what yoga truly is about. She goes on to discuss the hardships that came with running a small business and how she was able to overcome them, how she got into karate, and her taekwondo background as a child. Yanti also offers her advice to do what is right for our bodies and to truly listen and confront our inner critic when in self-doubt, and the episode comes to a close with Yanti describing the one song that resonates with her life.

Episode Highlights:

- The events that redirected the course of Yanti’s life

- Leaving the law career

- Finding love and understanding in yoga

- Transitioning into yoga as a profession

- Lessons learned from running a small business

- How to embrace the struggles that come with starting something new

- Starting out in the karate style, Shotokan.

- Doing what is right for the body

- Battling your inner critic

- The one song that describes Yanti’s life.

Quotes:

“I grew to really love and understand yoga, on not just a physical level, but I saw it as a spiritual awakening.”

“It was a sanctuary but it was so much more than that.”

“You have a facade and a mask on when you're in a profession like the law and you're playing a role, whereas in yoga and in the wellness world, I feel like everybody loves the realness and the vulnerability of someone fresh in the sector.”

“I think we all go through second-guessing ourselves and we all wonder whether life would be better in the previous job, or whether choices you've made could have been made differently.”

“I've always said to my sisters and friends, ‘One day I need to write a screenplay or write something funny about the yoga world.’”

“Our job, I believe, is to get them out of that sense of competition and just really tap into what's going on internally, and to learn to actively listen to themselves to go inward. ”
