Episode 154 - Paying Everyone The Same

Michael and Ivanka's Grand Podcast

We discuss a BBC News article that dismisses on company's attempt paying people the same as an inevitable failure and try to keep the subject open for discussion. Some thoughts arising:

• We could pay according to hours-worked and acknowledge that those with the most responsibility are essentially at work 24 hours a day
• There is plenty of scope for financial incentives in any scheme, but these need to acknowledge that any success is a group effort
• It's not just about equal salaries; a model including equal distribution of equity would attract people with traditionally better-paid skills
• Pay has to reflect the area where somebody lives and should really be above the £55k "happiness" threshold (beyond which more money doesn't make you any happier)
• Wealth inequality is one of the biggest problems in the world right now so we should find a way to make something like this work, not just chalk it up as impossible after one company fails at it.
