YWAM is working to stop the killing of children in the Amazon, John Dawson invites us to YWAM Together in Thailand, YWAM Ships Australia responds to the Polio outbreak in Papua New Guinea, the Podcasting in Missions course will be launching in September, and more on this episode of the Youth With A Mission News Show Podcast ... Thank you for downloading this, the 107th episode of the Youth With A Mission News Show Podcast, I’m your host, Bill Hutchison. You can contact us, subscribe to future episodes, leave comments, and find links to all the stories we talk about on the show notes for this podcast at ywampodcast.com/107 … Stories: Bringing Justice to the Children of Amazonian Tribes in Brazil In a recent article on the Foreign Policy Magazine web-site entitled "The Right to Kill - Should Brazil keep its Amazon tribes from taking the lives of their children?" (here). I'll be honest, I was rather shocked that was even a question that needs to be asked! I wasn't the only one to find that question shocking, obviously, and the people over at Get Religion wrote up a good article about it as well... Much of the article builds off of the work of missionaries and non-profits, and their work to eliminate infanticide among indigenous tribes in the Amazon. It includes reference to Hakani, who was a girl saved from being killed by her tribe, first by her brother, and then by YWAM Missionaries serving in Brazil ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hocBCKlslUA As hard as it is to believe, there are some anthropologists and critics who believe that the tribes should be left alone, and let the children be killed as it is their "traditional custom and practice", and any attempt to stop it is the equivalent of cultural colonialism. Others however rightly state that “Certain cultural practices here are incompatible with human rights, they need to be thwarted. There is no middle ground.”. Thankfully even among other Amazonian Indians there is a general feeling of relief that this issue is being addressed ... Over 350 Indians, including chiefs from 7 tribes, gathered at the well-known Leonardo Outpost in Xingu Reservation for 2 days to discuss how indigenous families could be better educated about alternatives to infanticide. A follow-up meeting among health agents is presently being planned to strategize further. These are not efforts from outside groups imposing a course of action; these are the Indians themselves, taking responsibility for their own destinies and taking initiatives that will, in the end, benefit their tribal societies. The example that Hakani was to the tribe that originally tried to kill her has inspired others from that tribe to seek medical attention for their children, rather than resort to infanticide. More information about Hakani, and the Atini non profit that is still working for the rights of the indigenous childrenin Brazil on their web-site, atini.org.br. YWAM Soroti, Uganda On the last episode we shared with you about the Amecet Children's Home, which is a part of YWAM Soroti, Uganda. In addition to the ministry to children YWAM Soroti also has a Discipleship Training School, Prison Ministry, Women's Ministry and more ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxWa6JVxVKY I would encourage you to check out their web-site, ywamsoroti.com, to find out more about YWAM Soroti. YWAM Together 2018 John Dawson Invitation The YWAM Together gathering will be happening in Pattaya , Thailand from September 2 - September 7 ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiOk65YTsUU YWAM Together 2018 in Pattaya, Thailand is set to be one of the largest and most diversely attended gatherings in the history of the YWAM global movement. We are expectant that as we gather before God, He will strengthen our relationships and speak to us afresh. You need a Word of the Lord not to be there! – Darlene Cunningham, Co-Founder YWAM Together 2018 (YT2018) is for all YWAMers and YWAM alumni...
